Hasbro,
It seems like every Q&A session, a site sends you a question about playsets. But you always shoot us down with the same answers each time; basically explaining that there's not a demand for it, and that kids don't want them.
How do you know this without actually releasing a good playset? You haven't even released one in the modern line (Mustafar and Geonosis just aren't that good unfortunately, so we hope you don't use those as a measuring stick). You have also indicated that there's no other toy lines with playsets out there (which there are actually exceptions, check out Imaginext for example). But instead of trying to just follow a trend, why not be the leader we know you are and SET the trend? Star Wars isn't like other brands. Your market base is huge - kids and adults LOVE this stuff and we constantly have been begging for something like say, a Death Star playset.
Was there much of a trend for big items before 2008 in the toy aisles before you released the Falcon and the AT-TE (both at the same time!!)? Not really - you took a risk, and it paid off. You made those items just right - there's no reason to think that you can't do something similar to this with playsets. All one has to do is talk to fans (and kids) and see they do want this sort of thing. Check out the custom Death Star playset and numerous other ones by customizer Owen D. at
http://www.owenscustoms.com if you haven't done so - now THAT is what we're talking about.
Set the trend Hasbro - you've been doing it now with "The Big One" vehicles - you can do it with playsets just the same if you apply the concepts of movie realism and don't go overboard with play features that take away from the aethetics.
You can do it. This is the number one toy license in the boys toy section everywhere. Be all that you can be!
