Rykrof Enloe Chapter 30 - ELIMINATION

Image
The Republic has just repelled a massive assault by the Separatists on Coruscant...

Image
...and with the death of Count Dooku, the Jedi Council has made the destruction of General Grievous its primary goal.

Image
But the war is not over.

Image
All the while, the master plan of the Sith has begun to unfold.

Image
Far away from the epic battles stretching across the galaxy, Dantooine has become a sanctuary for criminal and illegal operations.

Image
Most notable are the Badoo Corba...

Image
...a group of terrorists bent on the destruction of the Republic.

Image
Now with the war taking a turn for the worse, some Separatists have secretly reached out to the Badoo Corba for support.

Image
And the leader of the organization, Mubaas Fuuda, welcomes them with open arms.

Image
Deep below the terrorist complex, the pungent stench of rotting flesh consumes the underground dungeons.

Image
Partially responsible for the nauseating smell; a giant Skrilling guard has begun his daily patrol of these lower levels.

Image
Massive and cruel, he sees to it that the prisoners have a short but painful lifespan in the dungeon.

Image
On this day he has come across something he has never before seen - a break in one of the walls!

Image
The giant brute realizes that the security of the complex has been compromised.

Image
"Looking for me?" Jedi Master Teltuu Stabo then asks.

Image
Filled with rage, the lumbering beast charges at the intruder!

Image
But the Jedi holds his ground and dodges a deadly swing by the brutal warrior!

Image
Using his immense size to his advantage, the Skrilling then corners his adversary!

Image
But the Jedi is too swift and quickly strikes through its chest with his lightsaber!

Image
Several Republic clone troopers then scramble through the makeshift doorway!

Image
"Come on, we haven't much time," the Jedi insists.

Image
"Secure the area," Commander Rykrof Enloe orders his men as he approaches the Jedi.
"Check for security cameras."

Image
"All clear," Commando Drake reports.
"Room secure."

Image
Rykrof and his men then begin to trod through the dungeon to check for hostiles.

Image
"Okay now, you know the drill," Rykrof says once satisfied that there are no other immediate dangers nearby.
"Split into your designated teams and search for prisoners - we are to protect any we find at all costs. Then we proceed with the primary objective."

Image
The group then systematically disperses into separate units.

Image
"I think I found one," trooper Chard soon reports.

Image
"I bet anyone we find down here is going to be just like this," his counterpart reacts with disgust.

Image
"If I was a hostile I could have just shot you both while your heads were down," Commando Drake scolds the pair of soldiers.
"Cut the chatter and keep moving."

Image
Nearby, Rykrof and his Jedi friend investigate one of the seemingly endless passages of the dungeon.

Image
"You're very worried; I can sense it." Jedi Master Teltuu Stabo says to Rykrof.

Image
"It's more than that," Rykrof tells him.
"It's this place. There's something very...familiar about it."

Image
"Clear your mind, Commander," the Jedi offers.
"Keep your focus on the mission."

Image
Suddenly a trooper signals that he has found something.

Image
"It's him," Rykrof exhales with relief.
"Stay back and give me a moment," he orders his men.

Image
As he approaches his friend, Rykrof can barely believe he has found Freelo alive in such harsh conditions.

Image
"Freelo," Rykrof whispers softly, "we're going to get you out of here."

Image
Suddenly, Rykrof is caught off balance as the Mon Calamari swings a stick, landing a solid blow to his head!

Image
"You idiot!" Rykrof bellows as he steps back to regain his footing.
"What the hell are you doing?"

Image
"Rykrof!" Freelo exclaims with joy.
"I'm sorry; I thought you were one of them!"

Image
"Commander, do you require ground support to protect you from this dangerous life form?" Captain Racker asks as the team bursts into laughter.

Image
"Real funny," Rykrof manages to say with a straight face as Freelo wraps him in a hug.

Image
"Freelo," Teltuu interrupts.
"Are there any other survivors down here?"

Image
"I don't think so," he responds.
"There was a Corellian down here, too, but I think something ate him."

Image
"Something ate him?" Drake asks.

Image
"We need to get moving," Rykrof cuts the trooper off.
"Racker, I want you to take Freelo back to the entry point and take up a defensive position."

Image
"Now you listen," Rykrof then says as he turns back to his friend.

Image
"Racker's gonna get you out of here. But if anything happens, just follow the tunnel until you see daylight," he insists.
"And don't look back, Freelo. No matter what."

Image
"We left a communications console at the end of the tunnel," Rykrof continues.
"If you turn it on, it'll alert Tylin immediately and a transport will arrive within minutes."

Image
"What are the rest of you going to do?" Freelo asks the group.

Image
"Something that should have been done a long time ago," Rykrof tells his friend.
"Now get moving before I change my mind and make you come with us."

Image
"I knew Rykrof would come for me," Freelo says confidently as he follows the trooper.

Image
"I'm too important to be left down here."

Image
"Alright, stay sharp," Rykrof says as he leads his men toward the upper levels.

Image
"I have a feeling the Badoo Corba know we're here."

Image
Far across the galaxy, Republic forces have taken control of Braatos VII; a peaceful planet that has attempted to remain neutral during the war.

Image
In the residential district of Unitos, Republic clone troopers have put the capital city on lock down.

Image
Several troops guard the main entrance of a building where a group of Jedi have turned on each other.

Image
At the south entrance, a separate team of clones is greeted by an additional support group.

Image
"Every exit out of there is now secure," the commanding officer reports.

Image
"Master Bassius said they want to deal with this themselves. Our only concern is to prevent the rogue Jedi from escaping."

Image
Inside the building, two members of the Jedi Order cautiously search for the rogue Jedi.

Image
"Something is very wrong," Redwind comments as he follows his elder friend.
"And it's not just the negative energy I am sensing from Kala."

Image
"I sense it too," Bassius replies as the two round a corner.
"Stay alert."

Image
The two Jedi then approach an open meditation chamber.

Image
"Leave now," Kala Mly Shundi hisses from the shadows as his apprentice stands by his side.

Image
"Kala," Bassius says calmly.
"This game has ended. Surrender your weapons."

Image
"There is no preventing the fall of the Jedi Order," Kala counters.
"With this knowledge we sought sanctuary on this planet until the time would come for us to emerge from the shadows," he continues.

Image
"Then you came here to kill us," Attia says darkly.

Image
"We had to defend ourselves."

Image
"If you had simply come peacefully your friends would still be alive," Redwind counters.

Image
"Don't be fools," Kala insists.
"The Jedi Order has been corrupted by the Sith."

Image
"If that is true, take your claim to the Council directly by coming with us to Coruscant," Bassius counters.

Image
"There is no use reasoning with a council that is too arrogant to realize that it has been deceived," Attia snarls.

Image
"Then we will do what me must," the Sullustan Jedi says as he activates his lightsaber.

Image
Attia then ignites her weapon.

Image
"I'll handle Kala," Redwind suggests as his lightsaber hisses to life.

Image
"Just contain him. Dealing with the young one will be swift," Bassius replies.

Image
"Arrogant fool!" Attia hisses.
"Your way of thinking is why the Council is unable to see what is happening!"

Image
She then lashes out at Bassius, who easily blocks her strike.

Image
Across the room, Redwind attempts to prevent Kala from aiding his apprentice.

Image
"You should not have come here," Kala tells the young Jedi.

Image
"You left us no choice," Redwind counters as he lunges forward.

Image
"The Jedi Order has lost its way," Kala replies darkly as he allows Redwind to move in closer.

Image
"And the Jedi have now become the face of corruption."

Image
"Now take a step back, foolish boy," Kala says while raising his hand.

Image
Through his mastery of the Force, Kala then throws Redwind across the room...

Image
...and the noble Jedi is rendered unconscious!

Image
"Ha!" Attia laughs.
"Your friend is not as powerful as you thought!"

Image
Despite her youth, Attia is a formidable opponent and Bassius realizes he will have no choice but to strike her down if he is to survive.

Image
Sensing Bassius’ aggressive posture, Kala turns his attention to the Sullustan Jedi.
No, wait!” he shouts.

Image
Bassius moves swiftly in to deliver the killing blow…

Image
…but at that moment, he is suddenly struck by a laser blast to the back!

Image
Catching the Jedi completely by surprise, several clone troopers have entered the room and opened fire on the group!

Image
The clones then concentrate their fire on Attia...

Image
Overwhelmed by the attack, she is quickly struck down!

Image
In just a matter of seconds, both Bassius and Attia are dead!

Image
"So, it has begun," Kala says as he raises his weapon and focuses on his new enemies.

Image
The troops then turn their attention on Kala!

Image
"Blast him!" one trooper shouts as the group opens fire!

Image
Kala blocks the first blast with his lightsaber...

Image
...deflecting it into the commanding officer's chest!

Image
The troops continue to unload blasts of energy at Kala...

Image
...but they are no match for the Jedi!

Image
Kala then avoids the next barrage of fire...

Image
...in doing so he then charges toward the remaining clones!

Image
Realizing they are unable to stop the Jedi with their blasters, one officer pulls out a seismic detonator...

Image
...before Kala can reach the clones, the room is engulfed in a fiery explosion!

Wonderful chapter, did not disappoint at all. I was honestly surprised when the Clones opened fire on the dueling Jedi. I had no doubt Order 66 was coming, but I think it was an excellent way to introduce it to your story.

Wonderful showcase for you customs and dio work as well!

I love this chapter, wondefully done chewie

some things really caught my eye:

The rakatan guard at the badoo corba building (hee hee)

The blood stains on freelo's face

and how well you did with keeping the whole thing parallel to episode 3.

Cant wait for the next chapter

Excellent chapter!! The pictures were visually stunning. The text was not too much to take away from the photos. The plot is great! I loved the Jedi getting shot in the back!! As soon as you read the text you're like, "Oops, looks like Order 66 was just called in!" Can't wait for the next chapter to see how Rykrof will handle Order 66. Great work.

Thanks my friend... I've been working on this chapter since July! I can't believe how long that it took, but am thrilled that you're not disappointed.

It was so hard to define how I wanted to portray Order 66 for the first time in the series, and decided that the best sequence would be for the Jedi the series has been following to experience it first. I was thinking some people probably expected it to first be scene through Rykrof's eyes in this series, so hopefully the timing worked out okay but also wasn't 100% expected.

Now, the fun part will be Chapter 31 when all hell breaks loose.

Thanks, I'm glad that you liked this chapter. I think this one had the most planning and work put into it out of any previous chapters. I didn't capture quite as much as I wanted to, but at the end of the day I realized just how long this chapter was getting and decided that a good cutoff would be to show the explosion in the room. Now the question is, did any of the Jedi in the room survive? Is Kala dead? Redwind? Chapter 31 will explain all of that, and more.

And I was also very glad to finally get back to Freelo. I hope that he seemed in character and not too over the top. Not an easy thing to do with a character like him who is intended to be the focal point of any humor that I attempt.

Regarding events in Episode III, man that's tough to pull off without showing too much of the action from the movie. I came extremely close to showing part of the Grievous/Kenobi duel, but thought that since we already know what happens in the film, and the majority of this series is centered around fan fiction characters, that I needed to focus on them. That's not to say however that we won't be seeing someone like Darth Vader play a prominent role later on (if the series continues that long).

Thanks for taking the time to read and provide your thoughts.

Thank goodness you liked it Jason, I know in Chpater 29 there were some images that didn't turn out quite as well as I had planned. This one also has some areas that I feel could have been a lot better, but eventually I decided to let it be and post it as is.

The dioramas alone cost me a lot of time and money, and after shooting the scenes 2-3 times each to get the best perspective I could, I felt it was time to go ahead and get this one wrapped up. I also wanted to create some more "grand scale" scenery, but my limitations got in the way.

The plot... really, I am extremely glad that so far it seems to meet approval of everyone. I realize there are different directions I could have taken this, and there's probably some opinions that I should have approached this differently. I am open to hearing those ideas as well if anyone has any. Ultimately I felt this was the way to go, but at the same time there's still much more to tell with Order 66 in the coming chapters... like how Rykrof will react.

Will he question the order or follow it? Will he become an agent of the Empire? Is he even the main character when it's all said and done? What's going to happen with the Badoo Corba and General Snodd - does Rykrof even have enough troops to pull this mission off?

All that is still something that is continuing to evolve as I get further into this somewhat insane process. :)

Again, thanks for the feedback, I appreciate it very, very much.

WOW!!!!
Great chapter. LOVE that dungeon the only thing I'd change would be is for it to be darker, but then you wouldn't be able to see all the great detail in it.

So if Order 66 goes into effect and they turn on Rykrof's friend, I sense Rykrof will take the shot to save him

how many more chapters do you think you'll have left? It's been a great run either way.

Great job all around Chewie.

Thanks Purge! You have been one of the select few who have been encouraging me on this series since CHAPTER ONE. That's a long time my friend, and I really appreciate it. It's the sort of thing that makes me wonder exactly how much further I can go in this series - as long as there's people who are going to support it, that's going to be a major factor for me. If support collapses, I'll find a way to end it. But as it stands, I have plans to take this series at least two more chapters, then start anew with an entirely new series, using some of the same characters, but telling the story through a differnent lense. And it may focus on events after ROTS, or even well into the OT era... who knows?

The dungeon was a lot of fun to shoot. Probably my favorite setting in a story since the Dathomir chapters, I just love the dark atmosphere, but I didn't darken those pics any more because on my screens at least (two different PCs), they were risking losing detail if I went much darker. I tried my best in include a shadow effect to make it seem more like it really was underground.

Regarding Rykrof, you could be onto something there. Imagine if he did take a shot and died, and Freelo witnessed it, and then informs Alyssa and Caldin of what has happened to their loved one? It's actually one of several different scenarios I have envisioned.

Also before I forget, I need to extend a thank you to both Lance Quazar and jedistyle. Both helped proof read this chapter for me and gave me some great suggestions in modifying text to better tell this story.

My questions concerning Rykrof is not being a Clone will he help the Duros Jedi, or will the Jedi die before his eyes? I really like the Duros Jedi by the way!! Will Rykrof become an enemy of the state? Will Freelo actually make it to the ship with the Clone? Also, Freelo's statement of "I'm too important" kind of has me wondering, but maybe I'm reading too much into it.

Many questions to answer in the next chapter!! Great job.

What can one say? Truly a masterpiece. Chewie you are the Mozart of photonovels. No joke.

The sets-- amazing. We've seen them before in your previews and all. One thing I didn't like was how obscured the dead clone was, I'd have liked to get a better look at him. I thought of mentioning it when you showed that frame in a preview before but I figured you'd show him off in another frame.

Customs-- they're everywhere, some made long ago, really nice to see them. All the Badoo Corba baddies, the droids, sweet! The one custom I hate is the Badoo Corba leader but that's because I really hate the character you based him off, it's well done otherwise.

Freelo-- I *love* Freelo. Hilarious banter with him. He was indeed in surprisingly good condition! Maybe they like to save lobster for a special occasion ;-) Steamed and dipped in butter I'm sure he's quite tasty! :-)

Jedi showdown-- FANTASTIC. And the O66 part, wow! Awesome how the clones blow themselves up to accomplish their mission, truly unexpected, great! The clone commander w/out the skirt doesn't look good though imho :-(

Photography-- you're the best, that's all :-)

Effects-- very cool, subtle as always, doesn't dominate, great!

Once again as I was reading it I kept monitoring the scrollbar to see how far down I was on the page, dreading how soon it would end, and then it's worse when you realize that some of what remains is comments! Just such a treat to read these chapters, it's going to be agony once again to wait for the next chapter! What oh what is Rykrof gonna do when he gets the O66 order!!! Shhh please don't tell!! :-)

Kudos!! And really, THANK YOU!!!!

Just read the latest chapter of Rykrof Enloe's adventures:
WOW!!!

That chapter is a really good one. The plot is well-thought-out. And I like the end of the chapter as it remains unclear whether Kala and/or Redwind are to survive the detonation or not. And introducting some Order 66 action to the chapter was ingenious. Guess we are soon going to see which effect it will have for Rykrof and his team.

Excellent work in every sense (photography is unique, custom figures are very nice with fantastic paint jobs, wonderful scenery and superb special effects).

Really looking forward to the next Rykrof Enloe chapter.

AWESOME! This one's a masterpiece, but I think now I'm gonna be more excited for Chapter 31 than other chapter so far! I'll probably comment in more detail later on, but I gotta say, I'm surprised by how sad this shot made me:

 Two very cool and interesting characters wiped out in a flash. I knew that was coming, but still, it just gives Order 66 a HUGE impact. You did such an awesome job with this. It takes an amazing writer to make action figure death so sad!
