POSTED! The last chapter was posted on Jan 1 -- so it's been a while! Time have been crazy busy at my work and personal life, so getting this chapter up this quick is not something I expected -- thank you all in advance for any comments/feedback -- it's very appreciated -- and for reference, readers can also see past chapters at the links below:

The Enloe Trials Prologue: The Baron's Crusade
Chapter 1: Seeds of Insurrection
Chapter 2: Atrocity
Chapter 3: Revelations
Chapter 4: Shadow of Death
Chapter 5: Depths of Despair

And the character profiles are below:

Image
Rykrof Enloe - Homeworld - Naboo. Former Republic Commander, who is now an enemy of the Empire. He has a history of entanglements with the Badoo Corba terrorist organization, dating back prior to the Clone Wars. He is a former close friend of Imperial Baron Tylin Gere and has been forced to embark on a desperate mission to acquire an ancient Sith artifact for Tylin - which has recently ended in failure. He now carries an unbearable burden... the only way to save his family is to betray his Jedi ally, Kala Mly Shundi.

Image
Alyssa Enloe - Homeworld - Naboo. The wife of Rykrof Enloe, Alyssa has lived a hard life being married to Rykrof, and has been the target of Rykrof's enemies over the years. She is a survivor, but is now in the captivity of Imperial Baron Tylin Gere.

Image
Caldin Enloe - Homeworld - Naboo. The son of Rykrof and Alyssa Enloe. His grandmother was a Jedi Master. Former Jedi, Kala Mly Shundi, has sensed that the boy is Force-sensitive. Caldin is now in the captivity of Imperial Baron Tylin Gere and has grown to resent his father.

Image
Freelo Macklar - Homeworld - Dak. Former freelance scientist who became friends with Rykrof Enloe during the Clone Wars. Freelo has been known to be timid, but is extremely loyal to the Enloe family.

Image
Kala Mly Shundi - Homeworld - Coruscant. Kala was once the apprentice of Rykrof Enloe's mother, who was a Jedi Master. Kala has flirted with the Dark Side of the Force and experienced terrible visions of the future. He barely survived Order 66, getting ambushed by clone troopers on Braatos VII. He now works with the Rebel Underground in the struggle against the Galactic Empire.

Image
Traedon Cusiro - Homeworld - Corellia. Former bounty hunter who once worked for the Badoo Corba terrorists. He helped Rykrof escape from Separatists on Dathomir during the Clone Wars, but later attempted to kill Senator Padme Amidala. After escaping from prison, he swore an oath to bring down the Empire and joined forces with Kala Mly Shundi.

Image
T-3PO - Homeword - Cybot Galactica. Protocol Droid that has served the Enloe family for years. He survived an Imperial attack on the Enloe homestead and a terrible ordeal on Dathomir.

Image
Baron Tylin Gere - Homeworld - Naboo. Former close ally of Rykrof Enloe, the two served as Republic Peace Officers prior to the Clone Wars and later as officers in the Grand Army of the Republic. Tylin thirsts for power and has become obsessed with acquiring an ancient Sith artifact, which was recently acquired by Darth Vader, who he secretly sees as a rival. He has taken custody of Alyssa and Caldin Enloe, and ordered the death of Rykrof's father.

Image
Emperor Palpatine - Homeword - Naboo. Dark Lord of the Sith and the undisputed leader of the Galactic Empire. Attempted to mold Rykrof Enloe as the ideal Imperial officer but failed. He takes great interest in Baron Tylin Gere's personal quests for power and admires his ambition.

Image
Darth Vader - Homeworld - Tatooine. Dark Lord of the Sith and follows the instructions of his master, Emperor Palpatine. During the Clone Wars, he was once friends with Rykrof Enloe. He considers Rykrof a traitor to the Empire but also is fully aware that Rykrof once helped protect Padme Amidala. However, his loyalties to Emperor Palpatine are secure.

Image
Another dark, cool night on Dathomir's Aisle of Mist...

Image
...which has become infested with the undead!

Image
Near the eastern coast of the island, Kala Mly Shundi swiftly maneuvers through the Dathomir foliage.

Image
He knows the only chance for Rykrof to have time to recover the Sith artifact is to lead Darth Vader as far away from his friend as possible...

Image
...and soon, he may be forced to sacrifice himself in order to save his friends.

Image
Less than a kilometer away, Vader cuts down a bloodthirsty inhabitant of the forest...

Image
...but is careful to avoid them in groups, when possible.

Image
He senses the Jedi's position and continues to push forward...

Image
...and is unexpectedly met by one of his seeker droids.

Image
The droid hovers before Vader...

Image
...and informs him that the Emperor wishes to make contact.

Image
"Open the communication channel."

Image
A beam of light then emits from the droid's projector unit...

Image
...and Darth Vader respectfully takes one knee.

Image
"You disappoint me, Lord Vader," his master sneers.
"Your orders were to observe the situation... not to get involved."

Image
"Enloe's Jedi companion is a threat," Vader attempts to explain.
"And the artifact's contents have been released... if Tylin Gere acquires it, his forces will be overrun."

Image
"Then see to it that the artifact is secured," Palpatine hisses.
"But don't let this Jedi draw you away from the objective..."

Image
"...and open your eyes to the opportunity that has presented itself," Palpatine pauses.
"This Jedi has been protecting others in hiding..."

Image
"Kala Mly Shundi will lead me to other Jedi?" Vader asks.

Image
"I have foreseen it," the Emperor smiles.
"But Enloe's role is vital... leverage the situation with his family to our advantage... report to me once you have completed this task."

Image
Once the transmission ends, Vader stands to his full height...

Image
...and Kala senses that his enemy's focus has shifted.

Image
Meanwhile, Traedon Cusiro has tracked down Rykrof's protocol droid, T-3PO.

Image
"I'm saved!" T-3PO springs to life.
"Badoo Corba agents... here on Dathomir... and horrifying beings..."

Image
"Yeah, I know," Traedon grimaces.
"The group's split up all over the place... I found Doskin's body...or what was left of it..."

Image
"Oh dear," the droid laments.
"I hope nothing's happened to Master Enloe!"

Image
"He was headed toward the complex," Traedon says.
"Follow me... and keep your voice down."

Image
"I should have stayed on Urelia," the droid mutters.

Image
Nearby, Rykrof has entered the heart of the Imperial research facility...

Image
"The lab's down this hall," he nods.

Image
"There's a functioning droid in there," Freelo adds.

Image
"Don't forget we've got Stormtroopers following us still," Caller reminds the pair.

Image
"Just keep a lookout," Rykrof insists.
"I'll be quick."

Image
"Who are you?" an Imperial research droid inquires.
"Badoo Corba agents?"

Image
"No... we're not Badoo Corba agents; we were sent here to recover the artifact..." Rykrof explains.
"...by Baron Tylin Gere."

Image
"I see," the droid responds.
"Then you are free to take it to him."

Image
"But as I'm sure you're aware, the results of the procedure have been... mixed."

Image
"What was the intended purpose of the procedure?" Freelo asks.

Image
"The resurrection of Amalaech," the droid responds.

Image
"Is that what this is all about? Bringing back a religious Badoo Corba prophet?"

Image
"That was the intent," the droid explains.
"When the procedure failed, they blamed the Sunnellion scientists that were contracted to administer the contents of the relic."

Image
"They tortured... and forced injections into the scientists... resulting in the outbreak..."

Image
At that moment, the hand of the lead scientist reaches for Freelo...

Image
In a flash, a laser blast from Rykrof's weapon sizzles through her skull!

Image
"This is intolerable," Freelo exhales.

Image
"Here they come!" Caller suddenly yells.

Image
"Take cover!"

Image
A laser blast then zips past Caller, right into the droid!

Image
"Caller, get down!" Rykrof shouts!

Image
Several shots blaze past the trooper...

Image
...but it's too late for Caller...

Image
...as he is gunned down by the Imperials.

Image
"Dammit!" Rykrof yells.

Image
Right then, Freelo slips, narrowly avoiding a laser blast...

Image
...and is rendered unconscious!

Image
"Hold your fire," the lead trooper shouts.

Image
Rykrof then watches in disbelief...

Image
...as Darth Vader enters the lab!

Image
Unable to raise his weapon, Rykrof's heart races as the Dark Lord approaches him.

Image
"Good; the relic is undamaged," Vader observes.

Image
"As for you," he turns.
"...your next actions will determine your fate."

Image
"...and of those you hold dear."

Image
"What do you mean by that?" Rykrof asks.

Image
At that moment, Vader drops a tracking device at Rykrof's feet.

Image
"Leave this complex, and see to it that your Jedi ally takes you to his hidden base," he hisses.
"Once you have arrived, activate the beacon."

Image
"You can't..." Rykrof starts to protest...

Image
"There will be no negotiations," Vader insists.
"Do exactly as I say, or your wife and son will be destroyed."

Image
"There is a functioning Badoo Corba shuttle in the north landing bay for your escape," Vader explains as he turns away.

Image
Rykrof then picks up the tracking device...

Image
...and conceals it.

Image
"Secure the artifact," Vader orders his men.
"And allow Enloe and his friends to escape."

Image
Outside, Traedon and T-3PO have reached the perimeter of the complex.

Image
"This looks bad," Traedon observes.

Image
"They've got this place locked down pretty tight."

Image
"I'm going to need for you to distract those Stormtroopers."

Image
"Distract them?" T-3PO objects.
"Sir, given my current condition..."

Image
"Quiet," Kala Mly Shundi whispers as he approaches the pair.

Image
"Wasn't sure I'd see you again," Traedon admits to the Jedi.

Image
"Something has happened inside the facility," Kala says, changing the subject.
"I sense a disturbance in the Force."

Image
"Like what?" Traedon asks.

Image
"I'm not sure. But this mission... has failed."

Image
"I wholeheartedly agree with you," T-3PO announces.

Image
Back inside the complex, Rykrof helps Freelo to his feet.
"I'm okay... but what happened?" the Mon Calamari asks.

Image
"Caller's dead... I'll explain the rest after we get out of here," Rykrof tells his friend.

Image
"Stay close to me."

Image
"But... where's the relic?"

Image
"The Imperials took it," Rykrof replies.

Image
"Just be ready for whatever may be on the other side of this door."

Image
Once outside, Rykrof and Freelo find themselves at the north landing bay.

Image
"Look on the far end," Rykrof grins.
"That shuttle looks operational!"

Image
"I'll clear a path," he says.

Image
"If something happens to me, get to any ship you can and get out of here."

Image
Rykrof then eyes a metal rod that could be useful for defending himself at close range.

Image
"There's so many of them," Freelo observes.

Image
"...they're coming from all sides..."

Image
"...maybe it's safer back inside?"

Image
"If you want to get out of here, that shuttle's your best option," Rykrof argues.

Image
The undead then begin to focus on Rykrof...

Image
...who fires a quick shot through the skull of the closest one.

Image
He then recognizes the walking corpse of Mubaas Fuuda!

Image
"Death's too good for you; you son of a bitch," Rykrof growls.

Image
He then blasts a hole through the former leader of the Badoo Corba!

Image
"Behind you!"

Image
Rykrof then quickly spins, blasting the would-be attacker!

Image
"That was too close," Rykrof says.

Image
He then smashes through the helmet of the last undead blocking their path!

Image
"That ought to do it," Rykrof coughs.

Image
But more of the artifact's victims continue to take notice to the commotion...

Image
"Quit dragging your feet, Freelo!" Rykrof yells.
"I did all the work here!"

Image
"I was covering your blind side," Freelo retorts.

Image
Rykrof then opens the hatch...

Image
...as more of the undead move in.

Image
Within moments, the two survivors are safe!

Image
In the adjacent courtyard, several Stormtroopers stand guard...

Image
...as the Imperials prepare to disembark from the infested island.

Image
"Well? Did Enloe escape?" Darth Vader asks Commander Resibar.

Image
"Enloe and his companion just made it to the shuttle," the trooper reports.

Image
"Good," Vader replies as he turns away.
"I will inform the Emperor of our success..."

Image
"...there is no need to stay on this planet any longer than necessary."

Love it! As I said before, I'm not a huge fan of zombies in SW, but I like how you've tackled it and worked it into your overall storyline. As always, your diorama work is excellent - better than ever in this chapter, in my opinion. I particularly liked the outside shots of the facility.

Chewie! This is TERRIBLE!!! Once again we are left begging for more! How cruel!

But wow it's so fantastic, can't tell ya how much I like it. The meticulous attention to detail, the amazing customs, the amazing photography - bravo!!

I almost wish I could stay away from the scene for like 3 years and then come back and hopefully see you've published - what, maybe 8 or 9 chapters? - and just immerse myself ;-)

Step up the pace man! :-)

Bravo!!!

Thanks bud - and yes, I completely understand the hesitation to want to accept the undead in Star Wars. I had to convince myself too - it was the Red Harvest novel that really sealed the deal for me (have you read it?).

I never wanted the zombies to be the focus of the story, just additional danger/enemies/etc. I really thought as much as anything though, it could be fun given the current pop culture fascination with the undead - and having a son who absolutely loves this stuff compelled me even more. I can say though - probably no more zombies in this series - at least for a while. Time to move the story along now with Rykrof's new predicament - will Rykrof betray Kala now and set up his friends for disaster if that's the only way to save his family?

Glad you liked the dioramas - most of that I built myself which is so time consuming, and takes up a lot of space! Now -- it's time to start making new ones -- yikes --

Thanks for the feedback - this probably was the most time consuming chapter I've ever done, people like you taking a few minutes to share some thoughts means a lot to me.

Another great story Chewie. Wonderful set. I loved the vehicles shown in the last stills. One of those being an origianl POTF vehicle sold during the Droids run.

The shuttle Enloe got was not a vehicle I recognized. I need to look at that closer. I must say diorama pieces are fantastic. The blood stained floors in the base are an especially good touch. It looks so realistic and well constructed. The chapter allows us to see a fabricated base as well as the outdoors of Dathomir--which is a work of art. Is the protocal droid sitting under a terrarium piece.

Kala sticks around for another episode. We had another "red shirt" moment as Brad got fried. I liked the custom droid very much. The zombie figures are top notch as well. That poor protocal droid will need a telethon before he is through. Nice work on damaging him.

Good dialogue between Vader and Enloe who continues to be in a tough spot. He would not betray Kala before but there is little doubt that Vader would kill Enloe's family (wouldn't he?) on orders from the Emperor. How can Enloe keep from betraying Kala? Will he? There are many reasons to tune in for more.

Interesting comment about needing to secure the artifact before it would desroy Greere's forces.

I liked the scene with the Emperor and Vader. Very nice use of the sl droid (which is the best part of that set and maybe the best figure of that first offering of figures) as a holo projector.

General thoughts:

I really liked the watermark Vader helmet on the cover page. That is Star Wars right there.

What would you think of having a slide for each paragraph of your opening scroll? I could read the beginning but not as easily as I may have liked. The second paragraph was real easy to read. Just a thought. Very good either way.

Very good lighting; the shadows captures the mood. The figures are posed well in each scene.

Thanks for your efforts. it is such a treat and a great way to get ready for Memorial Day weekend.

Oh yeah - related to that - I got obsessed with making sure Rykrof using a pipe made sense - the only pic I managed of him using it was on a zombie with a helmet on! Stupid idiot, I am. I wasted the chance to have him splatter a zombie's brains out!

So, I tried to make up for it by making it appear as though the pipe actually cracked the helmet:

Another great installment and a difficult predicament for Enloe. It will be interesting to see how it all turns out. He is a perfect good guy, where he tries to balance his own needs with the needs of the galaxy. He's allowed himself to get pulled into the Empire's schemes hoping he can make some good come out of it, but it seems that it keeps getting harder for him to do what needs to be done without betraying his family or his friends or his own ideals. This series has a lot of great action, but puts a really nice perspective on how an almost "average Joe" is trying to deal with the New Order and its consequences.

Love the dioramas. Beautiful work.

Another excellent chapter Chewie! I liked the twist that they were trying to revive an old Bando Gora prophet, I hope that is further explored! I must say that I'm also really looking forward to seeing how Vader's attempt to track down Jedi using Shundi and Enloe goes. A lot of room for really cool character development and play there. As always, your dioramas and effects are second to none! Keep up the great work!

Thanks - I appreciate it! Glad you liked the sets/etc - and maybe someday I'll look back and regret using undead in this, but for now at least, I'm okay with it. That part of the story arc is now a thing of that past though.

Again - thank you!

Hey! Was hoping you'd take a look at this and share some thoughts! Haven't seen you on the boards in a while, how's things going?

CloneCrazy wrote:I liked the twist that they were trying to revive an old Bando Gora prophet, I hope that is further explored!!

I think it might be explored just a bit more - but with the leader of the Badoo Corba now dead, and many of the undead wandering around Dathomir being dead agents of their group, their organization is on its last leg. The Rodian, Zeedo Chissis, is still alive as he was the one who had initially captured T-3PO - but I didn't show what exactly happened with Zeedo - I decided to let the reader (if they want, or care) to imagine that. But this isn't the end of Zeedo -- and it's almost time to finally introduce the Tantaar Raiders -- which I made customs for over five years ago for this series -- yikes -- where has the time gone?

CloneCrazy wrote:I must say that I'm also really looking forward to seeing how Vader's attempt to track down Jedi using Shundi and Enloe goes. A lot of room for really cool character development and play there. As always, your dioramas and effects are second to none! Keep up the great work!

Yeah -- I wanted to shake things up a bit -- it will be a lot of fun to explore the next "theme" in the storyline -- lots to cover! I need to make a Rebel base set now -- which is going to take some time! I don't that will appear until Chapter 8 though -- Chapter 7 will focus on the immediate aftermath of the events here.

And thank you for the comments! You know I appreciate it!

I'm really loving this story and look forward to each new installment. Your diorama work is off the charts! I love that giant mushroom on the tree! I also really love the twist you intoduced with Rykrof Enloe now working for Vader to keep his family alive. Can't tell you what an honor it was to see my Vurk Zombie in this installment. It doesn't get cooler than that! :D
