Postby YAK_Chewie » Tue Sep 22, 2015 11:55 pm

It's time for a new adventure in the story of Rykrof Enloe... read through, and please be sure to share your thoughts!

Image

For reference, you can catch up on the past chapters at the links below -- plus character profiles too:

The Enloe Trials Prologue: The Baron's Crusade
Chapter 1: Seeds of Insurrection
Chapter 2: Atrocity
Chapter 3: Revelations
Chapter 4: Shadow of Death
Chapter 5: Depths of Despair
Chapter 6: Seekers of the Dark Relic
Chapter 7: Veils of Deceit
Chapter 8: Catastrophe

And the character profiles are as follows...

Image
Rykrof Enloe - Homeworld - Naboo. Former Republic Commander, who is now an enemy of the Empire. He has a history of entanglements with the Badoo Corba terrorist organization, dating back prior to the Clone Wars. He is a former close friend of Imperial Baron Tylin Gere and has been forced to embark on a desperate mission to acquire an ancient Sith artifact for Tylin - which has recently ended in failure. He now carries an unbearable burden... the only way to save his family is to betray his Jedi ally, Kala Mly Shundi.

Image
Alyssa Enloe - Homeworld - Naboo. The wife of Rykrof Enloe, Alyssa has lived a hard life being married to Rykrof, and has been the target of Rykrof's enemies over the years. She is a survivor, but is now in the captivity of Imperial Baron Tylin Gere.

Image
Caldin Enloe - Homeworld - Naboo. The son of Rykrof and Alyssa Enloe. His grandmother was a Jedi Master. Former Jedi, Kala Mly Shundi, has sensed that the boy is Force-sensitive. Caldin is now in the captivity of Imperial Baron Tylin Gere and has grown to resent his father.

Image
Freelo Macklar - Homeworld - Dak. Former freelance scientist who became friends with Rykrof Enloe during the Clone Wars. Freelo has been known to be timid, but is extremely loyal to the Enloe family.

Image
Kala Mly Shundi - Homeworld - Coruscant. Kala was once the apprentice of Rykrof Enloe's mother, who was a Jedi Master. Kala has flirted with the Dark Side of the Force and experienced terrible visions of the future. He barely survived Order 66, getting ambushed by clone troopers on Braatos VII. He now works with the Rebel Underground in the struggle against the Galactic Empire.

Image
Traedon Cusiro - Homeworld - Corellia. Former bounty hunter who once worked for the Badoo Corba terrorists. He helped Rykrof escape from Separatists on Dathomir during the Clone Wars, but later attempted to kill Senator Padme Amidala. After escaping from prison, he swore an oath to bring down the Empire and joined forces with Kala Mly Shundi.

Image
T-3PO - Homeword - Cybot Galactica. Protocol Droid that has served the Enloe family for years. He survived an Imperial attack on the Enloe homestead and a terrible ordeal on Dathomir.

Image
Baron Tylin Gere - Homeworld - Naboo. Former close ally of Rykrof Enloe, the two served as Republic Peace Officers prior to the Clone Wars and later as officers in the Grand Army of the Republic. Tylin thirsts for power and has become obsessed with acquiring an ancient Sith artifact, which was recently acquired by Darth Vader, who he secretly sees as a rival. He has taken custody of Alyssa and Caldin Enloe, and ordered the death of Rykrof's father.

Image
Emperor Palpatine - Homeword - Naboo. Dark Lord of the Sith and the undisputed leader of the Galactic Empire. Attempted to mold Rykrof Enloe as the ideal Imperial officer but failed. He takes great interest in Baron Tylin Gere's personal quests for power and admires his ambition.

Image
Darth Vader - Homeworld - Tatooine. Dark Lord of the Sith and follows the instructions of his master, Emperor Palpatine. During the Clone Wars, he was once friends with Rykrof Enloe. He considers Rykrof a traitor to the Empire but also is fully aware that Rykrof once helped protect Padme Amidala. However, his loyalties to Emperor Palpatine are secure.

Image
Banyss... once the perfect escape from the watchful eyes of the Empire...

Image
...and a sanctuary for a small Rebel cell...

Image
...until Rykrof Enloe unwittingly revealed the planet's location to Darth Vader!

Image
Former Senator Tame Heem was promptly escorted to safety...

Image
...but, before the Rebel faction could organize a full evacuation, Darth Vader's Imperial forces moved in...

Image
...swiftly dispatching troops...

Image
...and crushing the Rebel forces!

Image
As the remaining survivors fight for their very lives, the Dark Lord exits his shuttle.

Image
"Lord Vader," the commanding field officer says, stiffening his posture.
"The rebels are on the run. It won't be long before these scum are all destroyed."

Image
"Where are the Jedi?" Vader asks, ignoring the ambitious officer's comments.

Image
"As you ordered, we have them... contained, my Lord."

Image
"How many are there?"

Image
"There's two of them... Sector Nine," Vlarra smiles.
"I have a squad of my best men ready to assist you."

Image
"I do not require assistance," Vader responds as he walks past the ambitious officer.

Image
Just then, Baron Tylin Gere cautiously exits the shuttle.

Image
"I was not notified that you were part of this mission..."

Image
"...welcome to Banyss, Baron."

Image
"The pleasure is all yours, I'm sure," Tylin snidely replies.
"You know why I'm here. Have you located Enloe?"

Image
"As expected, he's refused to surrender... Enloe's still out there; and he's all yours."

Image
"He is no longer of any use to me. I do not want him leaving this planet alive."

Image
Nearly a kilometer away, Rykrof watches as the rebel soldiers are overrun...

Image
...and manages to slip away from the advancing troopers.

Image
Throughout the complex, the rebels have begun to capitulate...

Image
...and are rounded up by the invading army.

Image
However, some of the Stormtroopers still encounter resistance...

Image
...as the Jedi refuse to give in!

Image
"Be mindful," Attpo Teacro tells Clorri Lislo.
"Our attackers have positioned us in this area intentionally..."

Image
"...they are setting us up."

Image
"Setting us up for what?" Clorri shouts above the blaster fire.

Image
She then realizes what is about to happen...

Image
...as the laser blasts cease.

Image
Darth Vader then approaches the two Jedi.

Image
"Use caution," Attpo advises his companion as the two gauge this new threat.

Image
"There is no escape..." the Dark Lord hisses before turning his head towards Clorri.

Image
"Don't make me destroy you."

Image
With Clorri incapacitated, Vader turns his attention to the senior Jedi...

Image
...feeding on his opponent's fear.

Image
"Kala Mly Shundi has abandoned you..."

Image
Vader then summons the Force...

Image
...violently snapping the Jedi's neck!

Image
Nearby, Rykrof carefully moves among the shadows as the Imperials round up their captives...

Image
Keeping his distances, he watches as an Imperial officer speaks to a pair of prisoners.

Image
His stomach drops as he identifies the officer...

Image
...Tylin Gere!

Image
"We don't know who you're talking about," one of the rebel troopers pleads.

Image
"Rykrof Enloe is his name!" Tylin barks.
"He was here! He's the one that led us to this wretched planet!"

Image
"We're just soldiers doing our job," the other rebel says.
"We don't know the names of everyone that comes through this place."

Image
"Very well then," Tylin replies reasonably.
"To your feet, soldier. Now, tell me instead, who is the leader of this facility?"

Image
"You mean Imperial Intelligence didn't brief you on that already?" the prisoner smiles.

Image
"These men know nothing," Tylin says to the nearest Stormtrooper.

Image
"Kill them both."

Image
The Imperials then open fire on the helpless prisoners...

Image
...ending the lives of both men.

Image
Horrified, Rykrof's concern then shifts to the well-being of his friends...

Image
...who have barely managed to make it out of the complex!

Image
Making as much distance as they can from the Imperials, Traedon and Freelo sprint through the forest.

Image
Consumed with guilt, Freelo can't help but question the decision to abandon the fight.
"We should go back," he decides.

Image
"That would only get us killed," Traedon reminds the Mon Calamari.
"All we can do now is save our own skins... or scales, in your case."

Image
"Rykrof never would have left us behind..."

Image
"He was the one who begged me to get you out of there," Traedon reminds him.

Image
"If you won't come with me, then I'll just have to do this myself," Freelo insists.

Image
"Look, I've got a shuttle out here," Traedon says.
"We can live to fight another day, unless you and your helper want to try and take on a couple hundred Stormtroopers."

Image
"My helper?"

Image
"Oh my, I forgot!"

Image
"Oh, thank goodness!" T-3PO exclaims.
"I'm no longer in that dreadful battle!"

Image
"Wait... you forgot the rest of me!"

Image
"Come on," Traedon suggests as he turns back toward his destination.

Image
"The ship's right here."

Image
"I've decided we will stay with you," Freelo admits.

Image
"Good. All we gotta do is wait out the Imperials," Traedon says.
"That'll give me time to figure out our next move."

Image
Back inside the complex, Clorri summons her weapon!

Image
"Good," Vader taunts her.

Image
Her lightsaber then hisses to life!

Image
"I feel the hatred flowing through you!" the Dark Lord says as the young Jedi attempts to strike him down.

Image
"But you are weak..."

Image
"...your connection to the Force is... inadequate."

Image
Overpowering the young woman, Vader strikes her down!

Image
Meanwhile, Tylin approaches his landing craft only to find several of the escort troops have been killed...

Image
"Baron Gere!" the lone surviving Stormtrooper reports.
"We were ambushed!"

Image
"Why didn't you report this?"

Image
"They just struck moments ago," the trooper replies.

Image
"Well, where are they?" Tylin insists.
"Where are the rebels that did this?"

Image
"It was Enloe, Sir! He took off around that corner!"

Image
"I knew it," Tylin growls.
"Find him!"

Image
Just then, the Stormtrooper shoots Tylin's guard!

Image
As Tylin turns, he can hardly believe his eyes.

Image
"You son of a bitch," Rykrof says, aiming his blaster directly at his former friend.
"Get on your knees."

Image
"Rykrof!" Tylin gasps.
"This is a terrible misunderstanding... you see..."

Image
"Don't feed me another sack of lies," Rykrof snarls, aiming his blaster at Tylin's forehead.

Image
"Where have you taken Alyssa? And my son?"

Image
"You have about two seconds before I blow your skull to pieces."

Image
At that moment, a sizzling laser blast strikes Rykrof!

Image
He then falls to the ground, lying motionless.

Image
"Fate has a strange way of working itself out," Tylin smirks as he regains his footing.

Image
"Rykrof Enloe," Vader observes as he approaches the shuttle.

Image
"See to it that he survives."

Image
"But Lord Vader, is that wise?" the Imperial Baron softly objects.

Image
"He's dangerous. Look at what almost happened."

Image
"He may be my only link to finding the leaders of this Rebel faction," Vader insists.
"Commander," Vader continues, "have your technicians extract all data from this complex... then burn it to the ground."

Image
"As you wish, my Lord."

Image
Tylin then watches helplessly as Rykrof is lifted to his feet.

Image
"Damn that man," Tylin groans.

Image
"Fate has a strange way of working itself out, Uncle," Vlarra Gere sneers.

Thanks bud!

I hope it's one that really goes over well - the photonovel feedback for all of us has really dwindled... gotta keep new fresh things out there, I suppose, and keep supporting each other as we make these.

Magnificent work once again! The battle sequence is one of your finest, which is no small accomplishment given your previous work. It reminds me of the battle of Rhen Var you did back in Enloe's Clone Wars days. Really beautiful stuff. The lightsaber duel sequence was a treat, very reminiscent of Vader's overwhelming power in Rebels. I love to see the Empire presented as the ruthless and dangerous force you showcase so effectively.

That base set is just fantastic, it feels so authentic to the OT era and radiates Star Wars. Plus, the wooded area is excellent! You did a great job of making it feel unique.

The twist with Gere junior was classic! He's a cool figure and I hope we see more of him!

Your writing, as always, is perfectly paced and fully emersive! Looking forward to seeing where Enloe's adventures take him!

You continue to impress. The pacing in this chapter continues to push along at great speed and the photography gets better all the time (which is impressive considering the high bar that you continue to set for yourself).

The neck-breaking panel almost hurt it looked so real - and it's a surprising (yet realistic) use of Vader's powers.

Not sure how much worse it can get for our heroes, but I feel like you're going to show us.

Slightly off-topic, but I hope some of the characters eventually survive to the sequel trilogy era. We've seen your characters through the prequel lens and the OT lens - would be fun to see some of them interacting with the galaxy under the new republic/resistance/first order...

Just reread this and was struck by how crisp your images are, you've really mastered whatever camera you're using (if you wouldn't mind sharing, what is it?).

I agree, we've gotta see Enloe in the Sequel Trilogy Era! Think of everything he could share with our new generation of heroes!!! If I recall, you made an old man Enloe custom at one point, right? There's still a lot of story between his current situation and the Sequel days, all of which I'm looking forward to seeing!

I looked through this chapter the day you posted it, but have had way too much stuff going on to sit down and actually read through it. I finally had a chance tonight! Overall, I think this is a really good entry. I like that the Jedi went down without much of a fight, because many tim3w fan-fiction (or comics/cartoons) give them way too much power. It's a lot more believable to me that they would could be picked off during this era, as they wouldn't be fully trained or even practiced. On the other hand, I would like to have seen just a bit more of fighting inside the compound during this chapter; this might have bought just a bit more time (like 5-10) frames between Rykrof hiding and then disguising himself.

The bounty hunter continues to be one of my favorite characters, and I like that Freelo decided to stay with him instead of going back immediately. I also LOVE Freelo's backpack, which I didn't expect to open up. It was cool seeing the ship hidden by the netting too. Though it wasn't a huge plot point, I think it gave a nice credence to the fact it was purposefully hidden and not just parked out there. And nice tie in at the end, with the Imperial officer being related to the Baron. I didn't expect that to be coming, though I anticipated a reason for them to dislike each other or at least be in competition with one another!

I can't wait to see where the story takes us now; reading this chapter makes me want to get back to work on my own, LOL.

What a fun episode. Great dialogue and photos as usual Chewie. Love how the baron has a nephew. Greet choice on a villain's head. The way the helmeted Jedi had his neck broke by vader was awesome. Along the lines of when Indy shot the Cairo swordsman love the scene with freely and the droid head. In the back pack. That was so funny. Great cliff hanger with enloe being kept alive vader's orders

That was delicious. I like how the baron showed cowardice. I really wanted Enloe to kill him. But that would have ended the trip real quick

I like how you give characters different looks. The baron has worn red before but my favorite was the long coat and the at at cmdr armor the collar was aloft me wide but overall nicely done I read this on my phone so I look forward to reading it on a bigger screen later this week. Can't wait to see what happens next

The force awakens is going to have to try real hard to be better than your story chewie

Well, that was dark... Vader and The Empire at their finest. Just dont turn into the George RR Martin of the forums and leave some good guys alive at the end ;) I just love the compositions of the shots and the camera angles - I'm catching myself watching it as movie stills, not thinking about the environment and taking it for real. Which means well done job!

Good stuff I really like your backdrops they really help draw the reader (or should I saw viewer?) into the scenes. I liked everything the only thing I thought was just off was the body poses of Clorri Lislo. They looked a little awkward to me in some of the pictures. I know how some figures just never seem to pose right so I just chalked it up to that. Otherwise everything looked fantastic thanks for sharing your work with us.

BTW: Ditto on Vader cracking that guys neck.. Owiee... Even I felt that!
