UGH 2008: First Day of Issue

Postby YAK_Jayson » Wed Feb 20, 2008 11:30 am

Per the news story on the front page....

Image

Rebelscum is reporting that there is going to be a UGH-type promotion of sorts in 2008. It consists of first run packaging of wave 1 in the Clone Wars and Legacy that will feature foil packaging then later the packaging will transition to non-foil.

Head over for the full story.

*The logo I created above is a mockup of what is expected to adorn the packaging - the design could change.

Hmmm... just another reason I'm glad I'm an opener, and also not a completist.

Hurray for Hasbro! They have once again found a way for so many to buy the exact same figure multiple times. Now if they can just randomize a pack-in with those....

Sounds a lot like Topps to me. Maybe action figures will start going the way of trading cards. You buy a case of them not knowing what's inside. They can have chase figures, lenticular packaging, sub sets, multiple sets, sets within sets......

I'm just about tired of promotions! Seriously...

Can't they just give us figures in a package like the good ol' days? Yea sure there are variations on vintage packaging but it was all updating what's available on the back or because of a new movie. That was it.

eh :/ ya not too exciting. i'm pretty much a complete opener now. for most of the figures this year i will only be buying one of each. if i see these before or at the same time as a regular figure i'll pick it up, but i'll still open the figure.

Don't forget the gum

DANG! Can't believe I forgot the gum! Oh man, there was nothing like that stale, lightly powdered, wax wrapped, chewy goodness.

I'm sure if Hasbro did it, they would randomly pack different colors, flavors, and character shapes for the gum. Of course they would also have colored paper wrappers with gold foil and silver foil UGGGGGGHH variations.

I also forgot to mention all the convention exclusives needed to complete all the set listed above.

I'm sorry to keep rambling on about all this but I'm just tired of hearing about all the "SPECIAL" crap. It would be nice to get back to basics.

I have no problem with the sub-lines like the animated or the Mcqr. but all the package variations, chase stuff, and exclusives has just really started taking fun out of collecting for sometime now.

It's sad when the first response to what should be a relatively neat announcement is about how the product is basically nothing but SCALPER BAIT. And this is absolutely nothing against Paul's post because he is stating the TRUTH straight up.

Aye.

Pfft...
Hasbro's UGHs are getting lamer by the year, IMO. A mail-away figure is cool, gold coins, eh, ok, but foil packaging...lame.

What can you expect, its just another way for them to make money for the scalpers.

I cant see how this is going to benefit the kids, that they so admantly state is who they do the figures for, hell if your a normal kid that figure is coming out of the packaging, I have yet to see a kid who plays with the figures still in the packaging, its the same as the TFU when they announced that the shops will only be getting a limited few but online would be getting the most, how is little johnny going to get his figures, after fat albert has scalped them.

Way to go Hasblow, another top idea by your marketing team.

I'm going to copy Horse_Head... :D

Here are my pics as well. I wasn't lucky enough to make the opening in Ft. Worth but the exibit is so good I made a second trip.

This truly is a must see and if you have a young one in the house who loves
Star Wars then you will be the greatest parent in the world for taking them.

Upcoming CW Figures

RS updated with some pics today, and I gotta say some of these look cool, but I'm glad I don't collect this line. I don't even know what wave these are, as I don't really keep up with this line.

Check out these pics though...

What is up with the ARF trooper hips?

They've obviously give him ball-jointed hips so he can sit on an AT RT but they've gone a bit iffy, i hope they do a better job when the eventually make a AT RT riding Mace Windu.

Is it me or is the holo table with Yulren bigger than the original press image, personally i like Yulren but i think this is what they should do with possible pegwarmers to make them more attractive put in a display piece.

Overall this wave looks cooler and i like that bazooka with Gree.

I absolutely hate that ARF trooper. Hopefully I can switch the head onto as standard animated clone trooper body.
