Quick question - what kind of paint would be recommended for clone trooper customs? I've been told that Crylar Fusion (sp?) would be good by a customizer I know, but he's 13 years old, and he also told me to use Sharpie markers. I wanted to get some professional advice.

Never mind. Shortly after posting I discovered I had useful paint! So, finally, here are my contributions! They are my first real customs and I must say I'm proud of them. 8)

Ruckus Squad

Image

Lt. Colonel Anik Ryder

Anik grew up on the world Corellia and dreamt of joining CorSec. When his brother, Biggs, turned eighteen, he went to join the Republic army. Biggs was killed, and Anik joined the Republic to take up his brother's cause after serving for two years in CorSec. He hopes to one day return to Corellia after the war with the Empire is over.

Image

Commando Captain Blake

A simple man, Blake did not join the army for some great cause. He merely joined because his friends joined, and he wanted to be with them. However, when his entire unit was wiped out, Blake became determined to take vengeance on the Imperials that killed his friends.

Image

Corporal Ennes

Corporal Ennes is best described as "a simple man trying to make his way in the universe." He joined the Republic army only because it paid, and he was very secluded for many years. Only recently, after being transferred to Ruckus Squad, does he begin to open up.

I've been using Testor, Model Master by Testor, and Citadel. Some of the guys also use some kind of sealer afterwards. Others will use a base paint before painting. Check out my thread at Imperial Ship Yards to see how my customs turned out with these paints. My name there is Jedi Minstrel.

Those look cool Revanfan!

As for painting techniques, there's different ways depending on the paint brand/quality... an older tutorial that I posted is here. But it's pretty outdated, and was from before I was using Testors (which I mostly use now, but I still use the cheaper acrylics in some cases).

I am just checking in to say how much I am enjoying all the great customs I am seeing here. Just awesome work.

This has been one of our most successful custom contests and I would love to see something like this happen for years to come.

It definitely has been awesome, that's for sure. If I can squeeze out another trio before the deadline, I will.

Hi guys

Here are my three figures for the competition. They are all based on actual toons that my wife and I play in the SWTOR game. My wife Vicky has been playing since beta and I have been on there from the launch! The evolution theme in my groups is represented by the 'level' the figures are supposed to show...

First up is the Gunslinger Nu'Anna-Shan. A female cyborg. Nu'Anna is my secondary toon and is shown here to represent a lower level character...

 Image

Hudson is my wife's main character. He is a Trooper Commando class Healer. I've shown him here is armour meant to represent him as a mid level avatar.

Image

An here is my third entry Jedi General T'aaylorr. He is a Jedi Guardian / Tank. This guy is my primary character and is currently about level 47 (out of 50) I've depicted him in a sort of end game armour...

Image

Here are a few group shots of all three figures. I really enjoyed putting these guys together - a great reminder of hours spent in gaming and more importantly as part of a tribute to MAS.

Thanks for looking,

We were pretty slow to get our entry in. The biggest reason was that we had grand plans, but fell short on execution. Even though we were given several months to complete this project, things just never quite came together in the way that we hoped. We did get to create three fun action figures, just not the ones we thought we were going to create. If the contest wasn't for Mercury Art Studios we probably would have skipped on entering, but we are putting the figures we created up for auction to help out his family.

CONTEST ENTRY

Image

THE GOOD

Image
This Nautolan female was one heck of a pilot. She was transporting a Jedi with an important mission when they were shot down over an unknown planet. They are being hunted by the HK-47 assassin droid that shot down her vessel.

THE BAD

Image
HK-47 was a Hunter-Killer assassin droid and Jedi hunter. The HK-47 droid disguised himself in clothing to conceal his identity.

THE UGLY

Image

The Jedi's face was horribly disfigured and he wears a mask to hide his unsightly appearance.

Can I ask a huge favor? I'm about to go abroad for a month - to a country with a less than 2% internet penetration rate - so I won't be able to check the site often. Any way somebody can e-mail me if I win? Thanks.

i realize that the deadline has come and gone for this tributes closing, but i still would like to contribute just for appriciation of the community and Mercury Art Studios.....so while i realize that these will not count towards the prize id like to share these whith you and i hope you enjoy them.

first off, id like to share some thoughts and memories with you.....recently ive returned to the customizing community after a long hiatus. i was looking forward to getting back into the hooby and picking back up on some projects with some friends on the boards. im not much for commisioning figures from toheer customizers, i understand how time consuming the hobby can be and that it can be hard to finish projects and to be honest i much prefer to try my hand at any and every idea, weather it comes out or not. but i have to say i have always been and am to this day a huge fan of Mike's work. i mesaged Mike about a commision for a custom twilek warrior jedi....im sure we all remeber all the shirtless twileks he created and how super sick they where. we messaged back and forth brainstorming and had a good time coming up with ideas for this figure. he finally messaged me that he had gotten started and was moving along, and the next post he said he said he would have pictures for me the following week....well i hadn't heard from Mike for a bit, and once i made my way back to yakface and was browsing the boards i learned about the tragic loss of Mike. i am truly hart broken at his passing and im regretful the him and i never were able to finish our project as id love to have one of his amazing works in my collection. this tribute is a fitting, amazing and fun way to celebrate Mike, ill always remeber him as a great community member, an absolutley amazing cutomizer, a good person and a great friend......these are for you Mike....may the force be with you.

Sure thing darthcrassus, if you are selected, we will let you know.

Also jedistyle, those are simply amazing. Too bad they are past the prize deadline but they will definitely make it into the Roundup Report!
