OOOOooooo!!!! I'm an archaeologist were pretty much all anti-metal detectorists in the UK, not all of them declare their finds or ruin sites losing the all important context. Plus we get nighthawks who enter digs at night looking for things to sell on; common across Europe. Obviously not all are out to make money off finds as more do use the Portable Antiquities units now as it has made them more aware of the Treasury Act etc, a lot are helping and working with archaeologists these days; as with anything theres good and bad. Rant over!! :D

What do you tend to look for?

Mostly coins, old silver coins.

Don't archaeologists sometimes use metal detectors?

Not really, but they have started to be used a tiny but, like on the spoil heap and the odd trench.

What types of coins you found?

Just old US silver coins, and wheat back pennies.

Nothing that belongs in a museum. :P

Yeah the name comes from the assumption that the person who left them hoarded them. I take it in the US it would be possibly hoarding during the Civil War etc.

Not really, I just know it's from the old High School in my town. (It's no longer a school.)
