Hey hey! Can you post pictures here please, I don't have a FB account and I don't plan on ever getting one (I'm weird that way!) :-)

Hi there,

Thanks for the enthusiastic reactions. Yeah, apart from little parts getting loose it really works out great.

About materials:

- The ground plate is MDF wood plates with ordinary wood sides.
- The house and hills are made of pieces of polystyrene, covered with papier mache (wallpaper glue + newspapers) That includes the roof.
- The pieces are stuck together baceause of the wood pins I stuck in them and the stagetape I used.
- I tried to even out the top with strips of cardboard.
- The floor of the house is made of cardboard.
- In the wallpaperglue I added dried sand.
- The house I covered with wall-filler and floor egaliser (the grey part) for the first went short. I mixed a lot of dried sand in this.
- Than a base coat of paint.
- The lights are ordinary Christmas ligths.

This is the last day of my holiday, so proceedings will take more time from now on, alas!

See you,

Walter

And now for my fellow Yaksmen:
Well well, a fellow Dutchman! Those ar hard to find in this communicty :D Welcome to Da Yak, Walter! That's a very nice diorama in progress, keep it up! Wallpaper glue to bond the mix, eh? I'll have to try that sometime. I've used woodglue up until recently, but little bits always crumble down from the mix.

YES, as good as finished it is!!!
Watch the photo's and shiver.
I am astonished myself at how the paint turned out on the cement covering.
The background is a photo print from a *.bmp of Tatoeine, I believe I downloaded it from NiubNiub.

Finding the right colours for the sand and house was a never ending story of mixing, but I am pleased with the outcome.

Just came back from your fb page, Walter. Amazing dio, that turned out great! Love the removable roof and the lighting. Now, you really have to add some accessories to add more life to the house and of course repaint the landspeeder :D

Awesome work! The painting and detail with the rough walls really works! The light does a great job, and the background picture really sells it. (With the political uprisings there, this is probably the closest one could safely get to Tunisia right now!)

I agree with Incom. Be sure to add various details like the boxes and crates outside the house. It will spruce it up even more. Congratulations!

Hi folks,

Thanks for the responses.
Yes, I am planning on doing boxes and a moisture vapourizer. But that will take three weeks the least.
I added some bushes allready as well. They were in the cave in the movie, but hey, one must allow oneself some creative freedom.
First I had to fix the leaking light over the door. That's done now.
The floor I painted more dark. Finishing touch is to dull-coat the whole lot. The paint I used is ordinary acrylic school-paint, which is very vulnerable.
My daughters want to do the inside with furnish and stuff... Better AFTER the coating I think... :?

Now the final question I avoided until now... where am I going to stack this beauty?? Familiar problem guys? :D

Cheers,

Walter

Outstanding work buddy, that really turned out great. The planning, time and effort really paid off. This is one of the best Lars Homestead dioramas I've seen. You made the front page too. :)
