As to the fabric, I tend to favour cotton and elastane blends. It is probably a bit of a joke by now, but the most common source of the material is women's clothing, and particularly underwear. They can usually be obtained pretty easily, are comparatively cheap, come in a wide variety of colours, styles and thicknesses, are easy to work with, generally have bi-directional give (absolutely mandatory when working at this scale, particularly when going for form-fitting, somewhat realistic looks) and go a remarkably long way when used wisely. Another great source, as used in this next figure, are pillow cases with high thread counts, handkerchiefs, and old T-shirts too good to throw away but not good enough to donate to charity - again cheap and easy to both use and obtain.

Kenner's artisans only had access to partial black and white photographs of the Snivvian Cantina patron Zutton, so when designing their action figure version of the character, they were forced to take some liberties in both the costume design and height, leading infamously to the Blue Snaggletooth figure appearing in two Sears exclusive packs in early 1978 before being replaced with the more familiar, shorter red version.
