Forum bots?

Just a heads up, noticed an astronomical number of "guests" on the forum: Total: 1,163 (members: 2, guests: 1,161), which might be mostly bots. Same thing happened on RS awhile back, and there have been issues surrounding functionality and lag. Thought I'd warn you before they potentially cause something similar here.

The spam bots on the forums have increased heavily as of late - this morning there are three pages worth of spam posts. Is there a way to add an additional captcha or challenge to prevent them from creating accounts in the first place?

Spammers have been hitting us hard lately. I just cleaned up several forums with probably 50+ messages total. The captcha thing might work, but out of my hands as a moderator. Maybe Jayson is the one to ask?

Thanks for bringing this to our attention. I'll do some more digging around what else we can do. We have the user creation process pretty strict as this happened to us a few years ago.
