Hi everyone! This is my first diorama. It has always been something I have wanted to do, along with photonovels (which hopefully will be coming soon as well). Welcome to Mos Eisley! Unfortunately, I didn't take too many in-progress pictures. But I'll here's what I did, I hope you enjoy!!
I started off with a quick bit of concept art. I sketched out the general look of the diorama, as well as the dimensions. Before actually starting to build it, I made a "map" of the base out of paper that was the same size as the base was going to be. With a pencil I drew where everything was going to be, and measured so it would be precise. So after all the preperations were ready and good, I was able to start.
The diorama itself is made out of foamboard (with the exception of a few bits of cardboard, and Styrofoam). I put together the general shapes of the buildings together with hot glue. This took a little while, but it was really nice to have my brother helping me. So after the buildings were put together we put spackling on some of them to both give a rougher texture, and to smooth over the rough bits.
Then here came the most tedious part: painting! For this step, my friend and brother were both influential helps. We started by painting the buildings with an orange-ish tan, then waited for that to dry. After that was finished, we mixed a dark brown paint with vinegar and painted that all onto the buildings. The vinegar causes the paint to soak in, which gives it the rough look we were going for when it comes to the texture of Mos Eisley. Here are some pictures!

The next step was for us to put the final coat of paint on! We found a tan acrylic paint that looked movie-accurate, so that was a blessing! In order not to cover up all the textures, we made sure the paint was thinned before applying it. So we basically just painted our hands until it was thinner, haha. I also painted the interior of our little Cantina a darker brown. It was starting to come together!

So next up, we put the now-painted buildings on the paper "base map," and then fitted them like a puzzle together. I then put it on the base, which we painted a darker, more warm color of tan. I glued it all together, and used an adhesive in some places as well. Spackling was used to connect the buildings to the ground. After that was ready, I blended the paint to make the spackling look like sand.... "I don't like sand. It's rough and coarse and irritating, and gets everywhere." (Couldn't resist.)

Now it was almost done! Out of clay and metallic paint, I made some piping. Also, the doors I had earlier put together were made out of cardboard. It was in the home stretch! I just added a few more details here and there, now the next step was to add figures!

Here's it without the figures!

"Mos Eisley Spaceport. You will never find a more retched hive of scum, and villainy."
Well there it is! I hope you enjoy it! Let me know if you have any questions. I'd love to hear your thoughts! THANK YOU
