rykrofprofile.jpg

Rykrof Enloe - Homeworld - Naboo. Former Republic Commander, who is now an enemy of the Empire. He has a history of entanglements with the Badoo Corba terrorist organization, dating back prior to the Clone Wars. He is a former close friend of Imperial Baron Tylin Gere and was been forced to embark on a desperate mission to acquire an ancient Sith artifact for Tylin - which ended in failure. Since then, he has inadvertently led Imperial forces to a secret Rebel base on Banyss, which was destroyed by Darth Vader's forces. Rykrof has now been taken captive by the Empire and resides in the Imperial penal colony on Tartaaris. Most of those dear to him believe he is now deceased.

veils_profile8.jpg

Baron Tylin Gere - Homeworld - Naboo. Former close ally of Rykrof Enloe, the two served as Republic Peace Officers prior to the Clone Wars and later as officers in the Grand Army of the Republic. Tylin thirsts for power and has become obsessed with acquiring an ancient Sith artifact, which was recently acquired by Darth Vader, who he secretly sees as a rival. He has taken custody of Alyssa and Caldin Enloe, and ordered the death of Rykrof's father. He believes Rykrof Enloe is dead, once and for all.

profile01.jpg

Commander Vlarra Gere - Homeworld - Naboo. Nephew of Tylin Gere. Vlarra has always admired his uncle's ambition and strives to rise through the Imperial ranks quickly, regardless of the means.

veils_profile9.jpg

Emperor Palpatine - Homeword - Naboo. Dark Lord of the Sith and the undisputed leader of the Galactic Empire. He attempted to mold Rykrof Enloe as the ideal Imperial officer but failed. He takes great interest in Baron Tylin Gere's personal quests for power and admires his ambition.

veils_profile10.jpg

Darth Vader - Homeworld - Tatooine. Dark Lord of the Sith and follows the instructions of his master, Emperor Palpatine. During the Clone Wars, he was once friends with Rykrof Enloe. He considers Rykrof a traitor to the Empire but also is fully aware that Rykrof once helped protect Padme Amidala, and rather than killing him, he has spared Rykrof's life by sending him to a secret penal colony on Tartaaris. However, his loyalties to Emperor Palpatine are secure.

ds01.jpg

ds02.jpg

The undisclosed Imperial penal colony on Tartaaris has now been Rykrof Enloe's home for several years.

ds76.jpg

The surface of the planet is under constant watch by the Imperial garrison.

ds99.jpg

Many of the garrison's probe droids have begun to widen their perimeter checks...

ds98.jpg

...as recent events have caught the attention of the prison's warden.

ds06.jpg

Rykrof now finds himself in the company of Garlin Nomad, a mysterious fellow prisoner who aided Rykrof during a recent encounter with a group of hostile inmates.

ds04.jpg

"Let's see... I've given you shelter," the old man smiles.
"...I even saved your life... yet... you tell me so little about yourself."

ds05.jpg

"There's not much to tell," Rykrof replies under his breath.
"I just want to get off this planet."

ds03.jpg

"Hell; we ALL do!" Garlin laughs sarcastically.
"But if you want my help, you need to be honest with me..."

ds07.jpg

"How did you know there was a lightsaber inside that droid?"

ds08.jpg

"That's a really good question," Rykrof admits.

ds09.jpg

"You mean to tell me you're NOT a Jedi then?" the old man smirks.

ds10.jpg

"No, not even close," Rykrof pauses.
"Finding this was just luck. That's all there was to it."

ds11.jpg

"Very well," Garlin smiles.
"Perhaps it was luck. Or, perhaps it was something more..."

ds12.jpg

Closing his eyes, Rykrof resists memories of his mother's Force sensitivities.
"No... I'm sure it was nothing more..."

ds13.jpg

"Well then," Garlin says, changing the subject.
"You say you want to get out of here... if you're willing to risk infiltrating the Imperial garrison..."

ds14.jpg

"...I can show you a way in."

ds15.jpg

Suddently, the sound of rusty servo-motors interrupts the conversation.

ds16.jpg

"What is it, K3?"

ds17.jpg

"Sir, I'm sorry for intruding, but it appears as though one of the trip wires has been disturbed."

ds18.jpg

"Probably nothing to worry about," Garlin assures the droid.
"Which one of the wires was it?"

ds19.jpg

"Yellow-three."

ds20.jpg

"Well, THAT isn't good!" the old man exclaims.

ds21.jpg

"I thought you said it was nothing to worry about?" Rykrof asks.

ds22.jpg

"Yellow-three is too close to here," Garlin explains.
"Someone has found us."

ds23.jpg

"Come on, Rykrof. I might need your help... K3 can guard the shelter."

ds24.jpg

The loyal droid watches as the two men make their way toward the tripped wire...

ds25.jpg

...they are quickly out of range of his photo-receptors.

ds26.jpg

"Why do I have such a bad feeling about this?"

ds27.jpg

Turning a sharp corner, Garlin suddenly stops in his tracks.

ds28.jpg

"The wire is in the next room," he says quietly.

ds29.jpg

"I'll check it out," Rykrof offers.
"You won't be any good with that rifle in close quarters."

ds30.jpg

"Brave of you," the old man says.
"Are you sure about this?"

ds31.jpg

"No. So make sure you cover me."

ds32.jpg

"Be careful... if it's one of the Maker's hunter droids..."

ds34.jpg

Rykrof then cautiously moves down the corridor...

ds33.jpg

...unaware of what lies ahead.

ds35.jpg

Garlin watches silently as Rykrof approaches the trip wire...

ds36.jpg

...oblivious to what now stands behind him!

ds37.jpg

Rykrof then inches toward the doorway...

ds38.jpg

...not realizing that he and Garlin have been tricked into an ambush!

ds39.jpg

Rykrof then turns at the sound of a faint noise behind him.
"...Garlin...?"

ds40.jpg

"...are you..."

ds41.jpg

"FLESH!"

ds42.jpg

Rykrof then spins, igniting the lightsaber!

ds43.jpg

He quickly slashes through the attacking droid...

ds44.jpg

...only to turn as another assailant approaches!

ds45.jpg

Rykrof then takes a step back...

ds46.jpg

...waiting for the droid to make the next move...

ds47.jpg

...and then swiftly decapitates his adversary!

ds48.jpg

His attention then shifts back to the old man...

ds49.jpg

"Garlin!"

ds51.jpg

Horrified, he finds K3-95 kneeling above the fallen man.

ds50.jpg

"I knew this would happen to him eventually..." the droid laments.

ds52.jpg

"...but, at least it was a quick death."

ds53.jpg

"I'm so sorry," Rykrof says solemnly.

ds54.jpg

"He was a good man."

ds55.jpg

"That's debatable," the droid bluntly states.
"Garlin broke countless laws in the past... hence his imprisonment."

ds56.jpg

"Well, he was good to me," Rykrof counters.

ds57.jpg

"And we're giving him a proper burial."

ds58.jpg

"Yes," K3-95 agrees.
"That is very thoughtful of you."

ds59.jpg

Several hours later, little appears to have changed on Tartaaris.

ds61.jpg

However, Rykrof can't help but feel a looming shift in his direction...

ds62.jpg

...thanks to a man he barely knew.

ds63.jpg

K3-95 then breaks the silence.
"You have not spoken in the past 52 minutes and 16 seconds."

ds66.jpg

"I guess I'm not sure where to go from here," Rykrof admits.

ds65.jpg

"There is nowhere to go," the droid replies.
"This planet is nothing more than a graveyard. No one has ever escaped."

ds60.jpg

"That's about to change," Rykrof whispers.

ds68.jpg

"Garlin said he knew of a way into the garrison."

ds67.jpg

"So what if he did?" K3-95 responds.
"It's not like you wouldn't get yourself killed once inside."

ds64.jpg

"Do you know of a way in?"

ds71.jpg

"Perhaps I do," the droid admits.
"But we'd never make it past the Maker's droids. They would tear us apart."

ds72.jpg

"I'm not asking you to go with me," Rykrof explains.
"Just information on how to get in."

ds73.jpg

"Very well," K3-95 concedes.

ds74.jpg

"But this is a terrible idea..."

ds75.jpg

"...Garlin would't like it."

ds77.jpg

Back outside the garrison, security remains tight.

ds79.jpg

A group of troops gather for a rare appearance...

ds80.jpg

...from the prison's warden.

ds81.jpg

"Sir, we have identified the inmates who had the altercation with the two droids this morning."

ds82.jpg

"Prisoner 22 did not survive... however, prisoner 1067 is still alive...

ds78.jpg

"...we are unable to locate his current position."

ds83.jpg

"Enloe... he is finally rising from the depths," the Maker says.

ds84.jpg

"Shall we hunt him down?"

ds85.jpg

"My men are ready."

ds86.jpg

"No, let him come to us," the Maker grins.
"I want to see if he lives up to his reputation."

All right. Where to begin??

Great set designs. Empire's damaged crates come in handy as do so many greeblies. Love Garlins she'd. The colors and especially the industrial piping give us a setting new to us but quite lived in. It is Star Wars

Probably more little touches than I caught after two quick reads. But I loved the reddish dirt grime on the legs of the stormtroopes. I am thinking that is your custom work chewie.

Loved the custom droids. One saying flesh is the macabre horror story theta chewie will weave into Enloe' tale.

Garlin we hardly knew you. Great design and intriguing character who came and went faster than an exotic costume at jabba's palace. But that is real world anything can happen possibility. I love Garlin's droid great use of parts.

Good dialogue. And maybe the best set of photos in the entire story. Frame by frame we see the one assassin droid go from motionless to erect and menacing. Loved it. Our story telling with no words or music. Just the power of the camera.

And this short but sweet chapter gets better when we meet the maker. Great name for a villain. And does the maker a term we first heard in a never hope generally refer to a deity or some guy like Henry Ford. The term gives a special possible religious views to droids.

Back to script the maker is introduced like a Bond villain. Combination of baron tagge and that robocop like ruler of marvel's droid world

Great custom work on designing him. The clone wars anakin or kenobi retro space helmet is perfect. I love how we can see the disfigured body. Clearly the maker has not had his ever.

Could it be the baron? Don't think so but what a twist.

Really fun.

Thanks chewie.

So, where do I start. Great episode, once again leaving us wanting for more at the end. I loved the sets a lot and I think this time the colors, which are perfect, really stand out. I'm interested to see where these all leads and who the Maker might be (assuming we've met him already).

Great chapter! Loved seeing the dioramas and droids!!

Thanks, I need to probably take some more pics of just the diorama stuff if a normal setting to give more perspective.

Since I know you like dioramas, here's some details on how I went about them... basically quoting myself here from a post on the main page...

The "outside" area of the planet was made from a sheet of insulation foam, with plastered newspaper shaped, plastered and caked in glue... then a mix of paint and glue, with sand sprinkled on... then repainted again.

Most of the buildings are thick card stock glued together, then I used wood glue and spread it out with a spackling tool to create texture... then several layers of painting and adding some greeblies here and there. Some of the greeblies can be found via eBay, just do a search for "Star Wars Custom Diorama" and there are some really good items that can be purchased. I also bought some screen for a window and cut it up for some of the debris.

Finally, the Imperial garrison building that is the scene near the end is made from styrene, but I did not make it. I was able to purchase it years ago from an amazing customizer - Owen Driscoll.

I did cheat and used a digital image for the probe droid... that was an "after the fact" addition once the scenes had all been shot and packed back up.

Really appreciate it and glad you liked it.

I did try and leave this on a bit of a cliffhanger (if that's possible with a story using toys, lol).

The scenery here might be my favorite so far, it was so much fun envisioning what this planet might look like. I still have more in the works for the next chapter(s) on this planet.

As for where it all leads, it's going to be a little different than most of the previous chapters... also it's been fun to focus more on Rykrof right now and not having the other characters involved - as much as I love ones like Freelo - this is the time right now to really keep the story on the main character.

As for the Maker, I won't give away anything yet but his background will be explained in the next chapter in good detail.

Yeah, his damaged crates came in wonderfully! I had all the sets ready to go for this and ready to start, then saw his latest offerings, then delayed photography for a bit so I could get some of them in hand. The shelter that Garlin has for himself was a lot of fun. I started on that around Thanksgiving... finished it around Christmas and then realized I needed to make another room so I could actually show Rykrof and Garlin walking around outside of that one area. I did use his room again for his "death scene", just different angles, moving stuff around some, lighting, etc. to try and make it appear as a different room.

Oh the reddish grime on their legs is actually the lighting effect! I thought it kind of looked like tinted paint too. But I actually did not customize those troops.

"FLESH!" ... ha ha... it might sound corny but I wanted the droid to seem like it was "thirsting" for a kill... I had to have it say something, I thought.

I was going to have Garlin live for a while - but I thought that was too predictable. To be honest, I struggled so much with this story that I decided not to write it out at all after a few failed attempts.

Instead, I started setting up the figures and imagined what I would have done with these as a kid. I snapped pics, moved them around, snapped some more pics, then suddenly thought it would be cool to have a droid ambush Garlin and kill him. So I went with it. I'm getting more and more spontaneous with decisions in the series like that. Plus, it puts Rykrof in a worse situation.

Thanks - and it's the photo program that really helps with the photography. My photo taking skills kind of suck. I don't understand lighting, take blurry pics, etc. I spend a lot of time editing. I also manually blur out items in pics to emphasize the real focus of the image... so if Rykrof is speaking, the rest of the image gets blurred some.

Glad you like the Maker! My son adores this custom and wants me to really use him and has been excited about this character for well over a year now... it took that long to introduce him though as a character.

I had first shot him without the helmet... was done with the scene... and then thought... "Wait! Why don't I give him a helmet? That would really add to the character..." - so that was a late addition. I will show his full face at some point... also, he is not Baron Gere, and will also be revealed to be a somewhat tragic character if I can pull things off right.

Surely the point to these stories and your efforts is to make something enjoyable, and I really enjoyed that. The devil is in the detail and there was plenty of it.
The warden is pure custom prompt genius. Excellent.

Outstanding! And it's about time, btw! :) Quite a treat when I see a new chapter up!

Dioramas and cinematography and character posing and photofinishing and all technical aspects - second to none, truly brilliant. At this point, I'd be disappointed if that wasn't the case. You've set an impossibly high standard, and I appreciate you maintaining that standard. The metal mesh in the background for instance, love it!

Story - argh you're killing me man, this slooooooow drip! Please tell me you have 3 more chapters ready to go?! I'm disappointed the old man died so soon. I was hoping it'd end up being a Count of Monte Cristo style relationship in prison but that attack of those weird droids was cool. What's the story with them, I mean what do they do on that planet? What was their motive for attacking? I was also hoping to see more inmates, but you've really set it up where it's like a barren planet with hardly anyone around, kind of Mad Max! I missed why there's stormtroopers there, are they specifically looking for Rykrof? I thought it was kind of a backwater planet where they dump prisoners and throw away the key and don't even bother to look after them. And the warden! Can't wait to get his story, what's the recipe on him?

So when is the next chapter coming out?

Thank you for making this!!

Great new chapter, it was very interesting and creepy at times. Beautiful new customs for this chapter and very nice scenes and lighting. Your dioramas become more and more complex with every installment! Keep it up, can't wait to see what happens next!

Well thank you, yes these are purely for enjoyment... and just my own way of telling stories since I had a childhood dream of doing something better than I ended up doing. It's all in good fun.... thank you for taking the time to reading and sharing some comments. It means a lot.
