I wonder if Hasbro is just wary of having children-sized figures for $16.99 and having collectors complain about the lack of value due to very few pack-ins, if any. Here's what I could think of:
That never bothered them when it came time to sell astromechs, Ewoks, or Jawas.

And we still complained as we begrudgingly paid $17 for it. So, maybe not the best example?
But it clearly doesn't keep Hasbro up at night, so that can't really be the reason. There's no way the reason we didn't get a figure was Hasbro fretting that the consumer wasn't getting enough value for their dollar.

How often do we see those small figures anymore though? As the prices creep higher, Hasbro probably realizes that they aren't worth the MSRP, and maybe opts not to do as many, especially when they are lazy repaints or just slight retools. There's definitely an expectation from some collectors for premium releases, because that's even how company reps describe it. There's nothing premium about a 5 POA droid sculpt that was also in the TLJ basic assortment for $7...yet we're paying $10 more for the same sculpt on a TVC cardback. Could be why they also tossed the Jawa in a playset, instead of putting it in the basic assortment again.

I received the new Han and Chewie through Amazon yesterday.

My Han card was warped from the packing, but I'm not a on-card collector.

I like the figures better in hand than what I saw online. Here is my brief, bullet-point reviews:

Han:
1. Sculpt and articulation are great!
2. Face sculpt is amazing.
3. Still on the fence with these separate hair pieces for the men. Looks like an action figure wig.
4. The wrists are too thick, but that's what you get if you want the swivel-hinge wrist articulation. It's not too bad looking though.
5. They could work on the thigh sculpt to better compensate for the gap caused in the ball-joint articulation.
6. The pistol looks off to me. Unless I'm missing something, I can't find any images where the scope sits that high above the pistol.
Score: 7/10 (due to rubber "wig," thicker wrists, and "incorrect" pistol).

Chewie:
1. Utilizes upper body of existing Chewie figures, which says a lot about how awesome that sculpt/tooling is.
2. Would have been a great opportunity to update the wrist articulation, but that may be a part of the same tooling as the existing arms.
3. Neck-head articulation is the same as the old tooling. It does not have the new double dumb bell peg.
4. New head sculpt looks AMAZING! I haven't checked yet, but I bet the Early Bird (neutral) head sculpt will fit this body. If so, then I may just have to order another Chewie just to swap out head sculpts.
5. The fur "loin cloth" helps hide the thigh gap from the new ball-joint articulation.
6. The figure has new feet to fit the existing(?) calves. It's a rocker ankle that has a swivel peg to snap into the existing calves ankle socket. It's kind of neat, and I think the feet are what make this figure slightly taller.
Score: 9.5/10 (I'm taking 1/2 a point for the wrist articulation, but honestly, it's not even that big of an issue to me).

I have not tried sitting them together in the BMF to see how they fit.

If Hasbro marketing is smart, they could easily modify these figures with gloved hands for Han and new (customized) head sculpts with head sets or just add head set accessories and gas masks, and package these figures with a 50th Anniv. BMF in 2027.

I'm not expecting much when it comes to TVC coverage, probably a few repaints / retools alongside a couple new characters. The Sigourney Weaver character will probably be a fan favorite, so she'll be tossed in the Epic line, and be as tall as Chewie, and look her Avatar figure. Hopefully they don't toss her in with a repainted X-wing, like they did with Merrick, and make that the only way to obtain the figure!

After watching the trailer for the Mandalorian and Grogu, do you think that we'll get figures? Do we maintain hope or admit defeat?
I wonder if they'll try to re-release the Razor Crest---maybe something with less paint apps and without the removeable panels. I'm just trying to think of how they could resell the ship in a slightly different form but still using the basic Haslab tooling.

From a retail point of view, if Hasbro is smart, they need to be planning ahead for Mandalorian & Grogu toys at retail stores and the 50th Anniv. of "Star Wars" (before it was called A New Hope).

Maybe since it's a new/different Razor Crest, they can re-release the Haslab version without all the unlocks and still stay true to their statement of not re-release.
Not to be negative, but I doubt that they'll do anything for the 50th anniversary. They didn't do anything for the 40th

New figures? No idea. I’m sure we’ll get another Grogu (marketed as Din Grogu this time) and Mando.

From what I understand, there will be a 50th anniversary toy push. Let's just hope they actually put effort into it, because if they do, it could be very special.

As for new figures, my cantina "retro" TVC 4-pk finally arrived today. Been too busy to get a chance to open them or anything yet.

I've opened my Retro 4-pk box, but not the figures---still haven't purchased new shelving for the office yet.

I'm not sure where I'll work this set up into my display. I know that I won't be keeping the Walrus Man as is. I plan to make a custom similar to yours that is closer to the vintage Kenner style. I'll reuse that body as some other Cantina or Mos Eisley patron.

I like the other figures though and think that the color variations on the new sculpts allows them to be worked into any modern diorama setting.

The Clone Wars (or maybe it was Bad Batch?) also made those costumes cannon, so place them in any diorama as different characters!

I think they may go into my Mos Eisley streets diorama.

Got around to opening my Merrin figure, and the accessory count with a new sculpt is about what I expect from TVC nowadays at these prices. I absolutely love having another Nightsister, and finally one with a spirit ichor accessory. Now if only they could do the same treatment for Mother Talzin!

On a side note, I popped the Ventress head on this body, and it looks pretty great together - makes me want a Nightsister and bounty hunter version of Ventress even more. Hasbro can do some creative part reuse and probably make a few characters with this sculpt, since the arms, legs, and pelvis are all pretty generic. I can imagine a lot of possibilities with an alternate torso.

Poggle looks good - I like the character / design, I just have no real desire to get an updated version of him. Probably wouldn't pick him up, unless it was on sale. I'd much rather have Tikkes, since that character hasn't been released. The Separatist leaders are actually some of the PT era figures that I really enjoy, because they were strange new aliens, but I'm satisfied with their limited articulation releases. A Nute Gunray from ROTS is the most overdue!
