Yeah, you do get to vote on the categories for each month.

The winner though is a random selection, and Yakface staff members are not eligible... some of us just participate for the fun of it.

Not to make anything too official or anything, since the laid back nature of these "contest" is one of the reasons it appeals to me so much, but maybe starting with the next round we should post the basic rules and such with each theme announcement?

Just cover the basics on how theme is selected (concepts nominated , voted on by forum members), winner is randomly selected from entries, etc. I know this month looks little slow but I'm thinking I'd like to introduce some friends to customizing and seems like a rules/guidlines post at the beginning of each theme would help new comers get into the swing of things here.

Just a thought. :)

I second that, DotD. Chewie could post a link to a sticky thread with guidelines and such.

Damn, gotta post pics of my entry this evening! I've been so busy reconfiguring my pc, I haven't had time yet to upload the pics :?

Totally forgot to comment on the great entries so far

darth_sidious: very cool duo there. I like the fact they look like each other in terms of attire and such. Pablo Jill's head with the hood on makes him look like a whole different species! Heh, kind like dr. Zoidberg from Futurama :D

DanoftheDead: to quote Inspector Gadget: "wowzers!" That's one heck of an imaginative and perfectly executed Nautilan! She's a gem, man :) I too totally love the paint work and have already moved in real close to my monitor to take some better looks at her. What a beauty. Very cool presentation to boot as well.

I'll enter mine this evening (really!)

Darth Sidious - Wow, nice pair of Jedi.... Not a whole lot to add on to what everyone else has said - - --the head looks awesome underneath the cape! Unfortunately, with softgoods, a lot of times the hoods just never fit right. But when it's done up like this, it looks amazing. Great job on making this guy really unique, it's customs like these that I really like to represent the Jedi, much more than your basic store version. Gives them that much more credibility!

The green Mon Cal is very unique.... I've softened up some on the other colors after Chewie's blue fishy.... The paint work on his face is amazing, and the green and chartreuse look really nice together. Great job!

DofD - This has got be one of the best entries I've seen in the yakfinities contest, and one of the most commendable I've seen in a long time. I can't do much but echo what everyone else has already said, but really and truly an amazing job on working up this. The face and paint job is impeccable, it looks more like a maquette for pre-production of one of the movies than an action figure. I know I've tried doing "face transplants" on occasion. They're big undertakings, and I have never had something turn out this smooth looking. Cool idea, and btw, who woulda thunk that a Mon Mothma body could look so cool just with a new paint job?! Great job all around, and nice pics too!!

I finished up my 2 entries last night.... Mon Cals, believe it or not!

This is a little married couple from the Wakulla District of Mon Calamari: Cecil and Fresca Tartar... They've saved up some credits for a while, and are now out and about being Galactic Tourists. Fresca always loved international culture and business, while Cecil was more of a homebody, but willing to get out of the water to go with Fresca gallivanting around the galaxy - -- - Naboo, The Moons of Doonarez, O'cixem, and many other planets just to sight-see. We catch up with them at the center of the galaxy, in awe of the towering, glittering cities of Coruscant.

I wanted to go with an OT 70's feel with these guys. I actually had the Marion outfit picked out for Fresca a while back, but after Chewie's Siobe, I tried to change it up a bit. Though I was still inspired by his color palette with the yellow. Hope you like 'em!

Here's some pics from that visit, where we see a kindly off-duty Clone taking a holopic for the couple...

Glad to see a few more entries! And what a pair!

I'm very interested in knowing more about the parts that went into them, especially Fresca. The picture of Fresca leading Cecil by the hand really captures the "tourist" feel of the characters. Great concept to flesh out galactic citizens.

Great work on these, I keep looking over the pictures and noticing more and more details in the paint. You've managed to tell quite a story with their character design and the mini-dio.

I agree with DotD: what a beautiful pair those two make! If Mon Cal had been featured in ANH, I'm positive this would be the look for its people. Terrific paint job and assembly!

Wow, these entries are really high standard, fellas! Hopefully mine is up to the challenge as well:

Ohk Moffu was an Aqualish mercenary/gun for hire. Like most of his species, he was crude and quite aggressive. Double crossing on deals was also one of his traits, which led to his unfortunate demise, when one of his scams was discovered by one of Jabba's henchmen.

Man! All these great amphibians all of the sudden.

johnboy walton, that is one excellent Mon Calamari female. I love the vintage Ackbar head. It really makes her look unique and more feminine. They're the most real-life Mon Cals I've ever seen. In other words, they look like "normal" GFFA citizens as opposed to military officers and senators. Wakulla? You're not from the Tallahassee area, are you?

Incom, what body did you use on the Aqualish bounty hunter? It looks excellent. I particularly like the paint job. Your drybrushing is particularly effective.

DanOfTheDead, that is UNBELIEVEABLE. She looks terrific. I've never seen a female Nautolian (sp?). The Aurra Sing head works particularly well with the Kit Fitso tentacles.

darth_sidious, that's a nice pair of Jedi. The colors on the Mon Cal are a cool take. Sea life is definitely varied. It's also nice to see a well-articulated Jedi of the same species as Pablo Jill.

Thanks Professor! That's a Animated Debut Fett torso and belt, Galactic Marine legs, Agen Kolar arms and obviously Ponda Baba's head and hands. I sculpted the vest, goggles, shoulder pads, upper sleeves and knee pads.

Incom... I absolutely love this custom. The color palette and the overall look just looks so Star Warsy. I've seen so many bounty hunter/thug versions of classic creatures, from customs to official video game characters. None capture the feel this one has.

At first, I thought that the added bits were sculpted, but then looking at how crisp and even they were, I figured they were some future military type figure, so good job on sculpting. Looks great!! Nice entry for this month!

Thanks everyone for the kind words on the Tartars...

Professor - -- hehehe, yeah I'm actually right outside of Tally. Thought it'd be a nice little joke to toss in there. Thanks for the comments of them looking strictly civilian. I actually originally had a holster for Cecil, but in the end decided not to include it. Oh, and actually Fresca's head is not from the vintage Ackbar, but is from an Attacktix figure I picked up at a junk store.

Dan, here's the recipe for both figures... I put a lot of work into Fresca to get things look the way they do, hope that it's been effective!

Cecil:

Head, hands/forearms - POTF2 Ackbar
Arms - POTF2 Ceremony Luke
Torso, skirt - E1 Panaka
Legs - 30AC Roron Corrob
Feet - Saga2 Nabrun Leids

Like I mentioned, I had a time with Fresca:

Head, hands - Attacktix Ackbar
Torso, arms - Indy Marion Ravenwood

Blouse knot/belt - cut from POTC green outfit Liz Swann
Stomach, pelvis - Marvel battle game figures, Invisible woman. They went on clearance a while back, think I got this one from Big Lots. The hip joints were a pain, as they were sunken in. I used some putty type stuff to fill in and then fit the legs into it. This didn't hold, but formed the right shape so that I could superglue them in.

Legs - from a McDonald's Barbie... cut down to fit and they've been glued at the flares to provide stability.

Feet - from E1 Amidala ( I think)

Thanks again!

Incom - I don't know if the paint or the sculpting is more impressive on this one, but both were done flawlessly. Even that stand has a nice paint job! I think you've certainly come up with the toughest looking character for this theme.

johnboy walton That's some part list. I'd have never guessed, you used a lot of non standard parts and combined them into a totally convincing figure. Great work!

You really fooled me with that head! I can't believe it. The Attacktix was a good sculpt and a good size.

I just moved to Tallahassee last week to start film school. I hope you're doing all right after all that rain.

Is anyone going to try the more difficult aliens, like the Melodie or the Aliens from the Golden Sun (Seal People) - dont get me wrong these customs that have been offered up are amazing (especially my fav the Nautolan Female, the head alone I would love, even a cast off of it - hint).
