I'm glad I'm participating again and well on my way with my fishy custom. I missed out on quite a few  I liked the Ancient Jedi theme and the Podracers, but time was against me.

I like the in-SW universe themes the most. That's why I skipped the Christmas YF and Reversals. I really couldn't come up with a cool idea :(

Time is mostly an issue, as it probably is for most of us. And I have quite a few WIPs I want to take care of, plus my A-Wing fighter and TIE Fighter dio are pretty huge projects. Don't worry, I didn't bite of more than I can chew

I'd like to see the Yakfinities continue as a monthly theme. How about if you let the voting run for the first two weeks of a month? That way, while we're finishing a custom for one YF, we can already begin a new one.

Example: August 1 - 31 entries for Amphibians, August 1 - 15 voting for the next YF. You could even reserve the first week for ideas, and only the second for voting?

Plus, I like the pressure that comes with a monthly series. I'm afraid that if you make it a bi-monthly theme, we'll be having this same discussion in a year or two again, wondering if it should be a quarterly theme, you know?

I know JD had a contest/competition once and it slowly faded, but I do my best not to let that happen to the YF! It's probably the longest running custom extravaganza to date. Also, Commander_Danny (I think?) tried to start something similar at RS, but RS is a different board altogether.

Yakfinities are unique in terms of participation, thoughts, ideas, creativity and are simply a vital part to our community.

Hey Chewie...

Good discussion... I've noticed a bit of a drop off too. Unfortunately for me, just finding the time to make a custom has limited my participation in the yakfinities, much less regularly making customs (also, trying to clear out my collection a bit).
However, I feel like yakfinities is, and definitely needs to continue to be an integral part in this community. I know I don't get by enough to be able to check out everyone's work and leave detailed, honest feedback. At least during the yak I can many times see progress of people's work, and then have more of a set amount of figures that I know I can try to comment on. I really don't like to post too much of my own stuff when I don't have as much time to look at other members' creations, and give the feedback that they deserve - so this kind of gives me an out when I do participate.

I like the 3 ideas mentioned above, all seem pretty good. I have had an idea swirling around for awhile though that might be good for this month. How about 3 3/4" Unleashed figures? So you can take existing figures, weather them, change articulation, etc. or create your own character, and then create a limited amount of scenery to go with them. I know I've played around a bit before with some figures just for display that looked pretty cool. For instance, you could take 2 SA E2 Clones, 1 red, 1 white, an AOTC Aayla Secura geonosis base, and set up a mini version of the full scale unleashed clones. I guess I'm thinking of the great work that Hemble has done, maybe to a lesser extent for something like this, but either having ultra articulation, sculpting, or utilizing the pre-posed junk statue figures to make something kind of dynamic.

What a sales pitch  LOL

I second 'band members'... already have an idea for two band members 8)

Johnboy, 3¾" unleashed style customs is great too. Hemble indeed actually makes great unleashed style customs. Don't be too hard on the discontinued Unleashed line, though. I happen to like my Unleashed ladies Aayla, Pad-uh-mé and Leia :p

Multiple figures forming a little dio is just as cool and I have a couple of ideas written down on my list. But YF has so far been mostly about single custom figures, so I don't think it will get off the ground easily :?

So, I like these options:
- band members
- unleashed style custom

And would like to add this one:
- customs based on art found at SWAG

hehehe Incom, I absolutely love the old 8" (was it?) Unleashed line. I wish I had purchased more when I had the chance. As far as the one-pose wonders, I was thinking about something kind of like the AOTC Shaak Ti (which is actually a fav of mine, despite the shortcomings). Some of those type figures seem like they'd lend pretty well to an all out custom, or even just a re-deco and some props to go along with it.

Hemble does have indeed have incredible work. I don't think I could come close to incorporating the realism he puts in such a small scale, and they're very dramatic.

Though thinking about it, band members would be pretty cool. Would open it up to just about anything.

7", but who's measuring? :?

Please don't quote me on that....

I'm sure we have quite a few categories left over from previous Yfs, too!

Like Astromechs, Legacy Era Imps, Death Star Workers (gonna make some of those anyway, to make the sweetest diorama 8) )

I like the Band Members idea. Possibly open it up to other entertainers as well if it's too specific a topic...?

OR

Go the other way, and have all the submissions be part of the same band? Just the cantina band had what, 5 or 6 people? And after the special edition, Max Rebo's band is up to at least 12. Everyone submits a potential band name along with their figure, the winner gets to pick what the band name will be from the submitted ideas...? :p

Or, I'm making it too complicated and we just go with band members.

I have been unable to post anything due to lack of a camera. But my adapter arrived today, and I plan on posting some of the stuff I have been working on for teh last few months in the next couple of days.

But now that I have a camera, and tons of available fodder I have no choice but to get off my arse and particip[ate in teh next one. :D

Thanks for the feedback guys - definitely some things to think about in terms of moving forward with these customizing challenges. I just want to make sure we're still keeping these fun for everyone... I'm going to discuss with the staff here and gather their thoughts as well.

Voting has begun too for September's challenge...

So far it's anyone's game... 2 - 2 - 2 - 0 - 2

I might enter this one... I'm not sure. I'm stuck on voting between Tatooine Residents and Band Members, they both seem interesting and fun to do and my ideas for both are similar... They're the only two I'd like to enter. I might try out Assasins but I'm not keen. The other two choices I don't think I could do even if I wanted to. Hmm.

(Stuck on Voting)

Ah heck with it, I voted Band Members. Tatooine Residents is never going to win so my vote would count more in Band Members, which was my second choice. Now, if I am going to enter I'll need to think of something cheap to make... Hrrrrm.

You could really do a lot of things with that theme... I don't know what sort of extra custom fodder you have lying around, but there's always lots of fan fiction ideas you could probably come up with.

If it wins - I think I recall you saying in a different thread that you have an Aayla Secura that's seeing her better days... you could possibly alter her and make her into some sort of Twi'lek singer or even a dancer in a band.

Well, my 'Extra Fodder' is this: Half of an Adi Gallia Head and a Torso of Agen Kolar. Other than that my figures are one of a kind so I can't break them up to use as I'd need to replace them if I do so. Heh, some of us don't have 1000 figures that they use for customs  Heheh.

Hmm... Aayla Secura could be an idea, but for that to work I'd need to buy a new Aayla and even on eBay shes still a bundle. The worn torso is good on my Aayla, thats the only plus side. Being a worn figure it doesn't have that muddy stomache that Hasro gave Aayla but other than that she's terrible. I suppose I could use this as an excuse to buy a new one, I'll just have to look out for a cheap Aayla that isn't too muddy first. :|

I'll think about it.

i voted assassins, it apealed to me the most even though i probably wont enter since im hopeless when it comes to customs. Do repaints count as customs though?
