Last one before I show my custom figures... Here is a great shot of the table, the bar section and the door to the back office. Uncle Gundy is the corner area. I will place a small curtain that obstructs the nefarious enterprises that will take place there. Keep posting your customs guys. They are all wonderful and inspiring.cantina overview.jpg

Excited to say I have made some time to customize figures again! Super stoked on the Haslab Cantina so lets make some figures for it before it gets here. I have wanted a screen accurate D'jas Purr for a while now. The version Hasbro gave us is nothing like the character on screen. My good friend Christopher Herman shrank down a 6 inch Planet of the Apes torso to the perfect size for 3.75 figures. I molded and cast it in black rubber then hollowed out the lower portion to fit on the Sith legs/hips. Obi-Wan arms, Boom Vidm hands and Hasbro D'jas Purr head. The entire figure was repainted other than the eyes. I started to do some shading on the head but decided not to as I wanted this to look like a figure that would come from Hasbro. Super fun and not too difficult to make with the torso available from my store, Outer Rim Traders. Thanks for having a look and I hope to see an accurate D'jas in everyones cantina!tempImageYudSB1.pngtempImageoFA5Kn.pngtempImageiu5SVr.png

Allow me to add my first official figure entry.

Spaceport Gang Boss--Heater. Heater works for Jabba making sure that Imperial Customs Officials don't have a watchful eye on certain cargo arriving and lifting off from Mos Eisley. He may also arrange certain imports falling off the hover vans like fresh water from the Rampa Rapids find their way to a certain crime lord's palace out beyond the Dune Sea.

Heater is name after and based off the Star Wars radio drama's inclusion of Jabba's deleted Docking Bay 94 scene. The late Brian Daley penned the script for the NPR 13 episodes retelling of A New Hope. Daley wrote the new character of Heater into the scene in Jabba's place. No one knew when the radio broadcast aired who or what Jabba looked like. My figure is a reflection of not just the human Jabba (some on-line resources refer to him as Heater) but my interpretation based on the voice actor and the parts I had available.

Head--Chap Mei knock off fireman had. He is not easily found online but have seen two or three on ebay in the past few months. See the comparison photos with original fireman head and my carvng up that helmet to a cap. The cap is a nod to one of Jabba's henchmen also from Docking Bay 94, Boleo(?).

Body--Wuher from the Walmart three packs. A key reason I chose the body and head was pale but grimy paint application to the pale skin. The pieces seemed to match.

Nerfskin cape--Taken from a Battlefield earth figure

necktie--Thugee warrior scarf. The scarf makes the neck look better so it is practical and artistic. It is also a slight nod to another crime lord--Badger from Firefly.

Belt--A track from the Stargate creature and cart set. Originally orange, I painted brown and silver to be comparable to the human Jabba. Only customizers will appreciate this. The magazine clips or whatever on the belt stop at just past his hips. This allows the cape to drape his back seamlessly and not stick out. Each of these parts feel like they were meant to be assembled together. Five different figures were used to make this one unqiue bad guy.

Blaster--Marauder Gunrunner pistol with silencer.cantina Heater single front.jpgcantina heater back.jpgcantina heater comparison.jpgheater compare 2.jpg

Just in time to be replaced are my Tonnika sisters. I used the Titan AE Akima Body with princess leia heads from slave leia and the arms from a Leia collection Bespin Leia, Padme Naberrie base hair and the the dreds from a bookmark. I glued the hair in place.

The Akima body was a great base figure. Limited articulation compared to today's figures but a solid figure that was well made by Hasbro. The angles of the waist area allowed to paint the figure lighter complimentary color of the briefs. So often then the leg area squares or boxes the torso which takes away from the figure design. Not so with this figure. I could have added the black around the neck but wanted to share it now. The ladies are also shown at the bar in my cantina.tonnika sisters group.jpgtonnik green.jpgtonnika blue.jpg

My next addition is the Bar Fly. I just finished him today. The head was a purchase from Darth Sinister who has wonderful real and virtual customs and should be hired by Disney to draft a disney show script.

Head--Darth Sinister cast

Body--GI Joe Airborne (?) he came with a three pack from the GI joe retaliation.

Hands--vintage Ponda Boba

Gunbelt--Chicken fried toys cowboy sharpshooter

The paint color of the fly is a mix of testors acrylic metallic purple, dark tan, and flat black.bar fly.jpg

My last for the night. Davelynn Schmee. He is one of the more challenging Jabba Henchmen to make as the photos are few and not well lit. Also the hair. How many action figures have a frizzy, almost afro style hair for a white guy. He took a long while and went through several versions before landing on this guy.

Recipe:

Head--Chap Mei black beard pirate
Hair--Cyrus Black Neca 4 inch figure
Torso--Carbonite Han from the power of the force collection (he is a great generic torso for a strong alien/human
Legs--Ki Adi Mundi Phantom Menace original release
Arms--Cantina Cinema Scene Dr. Evazan (when looking at pictures of Davelynn, you can see the cuffs on his shirt are similar to this early and bad rendition of our least favorite Mos Eisley physician
Coat--Flash card Kenobi Deathstar Duel figure
Belt--Captain America (this version of Captain has a green jacket that when carved and painted is great for one of the other 3 human henchmen from Docking Bay 94.
Pistol--modified Endor Leia blaster.

I have a couple more to share and will provide a group shot once the last figure is made.davelynn schmee.jpg

Great custom! I really liked that radio dramas version of the events on Tatooine. I made a custom of that actor in the brown fur coat and in my mind that will always be my Heater, Jabba's henchman. It keeps the surprise reveal of ol' Jabba himself for RotJ, too. Again, great job!

Thanks for the kind words. Love the NPR Star Wars. So much fun to listen to.

The rookie bounty hunter Toro Calican's life changed the day that Din Djarin walked into the Mos Eisley Cantina looking for work.

Used headcasts from John Evergrey.

Here are a few other action figures I made with other John Evergrey headcasts.

Slowly trying to make all the unmade characters Hasbro never got around to making. Still have some more to go.

Sadly these Tonnika Sisters Elias made were commissions and are not part of the collection here at home.

Mikgel originally built a family cafe but it wasn't profitable, so he accepted Greef Karga's proposal to turn it into a cantina for the Nevarro Bounty Hunter's Guild. He holds out hope that someday he will be able to have a family restaurant. (from the Nevarro Cantina cross section illustration online). You can briefly see the character in the cantina behind the bar when Din Djarin first enters the cantina in the Mandalorian Season One, Episode One.

Completed the soft goods!

Damono Deomaley was another human from the Mos Eisley Cantina we wanted to add to our shelf display. A John Evergrey headcast of Damono put us off to a great start. One the headcast was painted, all that was needed to add the character to the collection was some minor sculpting onto the arms, legs and torso a Farmboy Luke Skywalker action figure. We then used the fabric from one of Dad's old socks to make the soft goods and our Cantina had one more patron in its display. We almost made his robe from a basmati rice bag, but the texture of the fabric wasn't working on camera. I did the figure's body sculpt, both Dad and I took turns painting parts of the figure, Dad made the soft goods robe and then I made the robe's lapels to finish the figure.

Damono Deomaley was a short, male humanoid who was present in Chalmun's Spaceport Cantina on the planet Tatooine shortly before the Battle of Yavin. While he was in the cantina, the Jedi Obi-Wan Kenobi and the former moisture farmer Luke Skywalker entered looking for a pilot, but ended up getting into a fight with two other patrons.

With the the new Cantina HasLab now in full swing, we thought it would be an appropriate time for us to pull out some really spectacular headsculpts we were fortunate enough to acquire from the talented sculptor John Evergrey. We wanted everyone to get as excited as we are about Hasbro's latest campaign offering and we figured what better way to go about that than by creating and sharing some really cool custom action figures with you all from the Mos Eisley Cantina.

If you saw our recent Fozec figure we posted last month than you may already be familiar with the artist John Evergrey. The sculptor has legendary status in the Rebelscum.com forums for well over a decade now. Evergrey had the most desired headsculpts in the entire community, but they were never available for purchase. Then, one day, Evergrey offered to sell all of his original Star Wars headsculpts as a lot. The price was a bit steep but a small group of customizers banded together to make the purchase and the rest is history. We were extremely fortunate to acquire a few of these casts from the artist privately and they our the perfect centerpieces for our latest custom Cantina creations. We are hoping to share a few other Cantina customs before the campaign ends July 8th.

To make Debnoli, Dad sourced the parts from what he was able to find in our fodder, then did the quick build, as I painted the Evergrey head. I also drew the lines onto the robe Debnoli was wearing with a thin brown Sharpie. The permanent marker had some serious fumes that made me feel nauseous and even gave me a headache so be careful working with them for a long time. Make sure to be somewhere with good ventilation and take breaks if you feel yourself start to become affected.

Dad used TVC Bespin Luke beneath the robe of the Comic Pack - Uncle Owen so the action figure would be able to sit in a chair like in the movie. Dad used a strap of a Clone Trooper gun to fabricate Debnoli's belt. After the head was painted and the robe was comletely pinstriped, the figure was complete and ready to be photographed.

Debnoli was a marksman who frequented Chalmun's Cantina in Mos Eisley. He sought revenge on the Galactic Empire for impounding his ship. From time to time, Debnoli worked with Bron Burs, a former commando from the planet Nentan.

In 0 BBY, the smuggler Gela Yeens, who also worked for Jabba Desilijic Tiure as a debt collector, was searching for him.[4] Debnoli was present in the Mos Eisley cantina when Greedo was killed by Han Solo.

The material that we use to create a customizable Cantina floor can be obtained from Amazon. It works wonderfully for a modular playset like this that lets you build your display however you like.
