Yes or no?

Due to lack of support, and even more lack of interest, should I continue my photonovel? At this point, I don't think I will, I might just scrap it.. :(

Whether or not to stop a project lies solely with the one who is doing it.

Personally I think you are considering throwing in the towel way too soon.

You shouldn't expect a massive amount of discussion, dialog, nor interaction while only putting up preview and "teaser" shots. That's one reason I'm not a big supporter of such. My feelings are get the thing done then let me see it. When you actually churn out a finished product then you will see larger amounts of interaction. I looked through your thread and it seemed to me you were getting a considerable amount of "support".

Additionally... the reason to do a photo novel isn't for the praise and recognition. Do it because you enjoy it. Those things are hard work and if it gets to a point that your not having fun then it is certainly time to stop. If Yak's Pub ever stops to be fun for me to do then I'll drop it faster than Luke ran out of the Wampa cave.

Ultimately it's your decision and no one can make it for you nor should they really pursade you one way or the other.

I would suggest asking yourself the following questions:

Why am I making a photo novel?
What do I want to gain from it?
Do I truly have the time to invest in it?
Am I having fun?

I agree with Niktom...

I wouldn't get discouraged if you haven't received the feedback that you want at this point. Look at what someone like Darth Kikinou is doing for example... he has perhaps the most under-commented photonovel that I've ever seen in terms of how fantastic it is. But, he's not giving up... and I gander the reason is that he really enjoys it. Hopefully as he continues, more people will take notice and provide more support.

You know, making photonovels is a huge endeavor, and one that you really need to be committed to if you expect to receive a lot of feedback... and really, feedback is contagious... maybe give some of the other photonovelists some more encouragement, and you'll see them returning the favor... I can't emphasize mutual feedback enough.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do, but I think you have a lot of potential, and hope you continue to pursue the photonovel idea.

Arc,the fact of that you are giving your photonovel a try is a reward in itself.I mean, take my photonovel doesnt get that much views. But I will continue it for my love of star wars.this is just my point of view.Your photonovel already seems interesting. And think about,we need things to keep occupied until the next chapter of Enloe comes out. :D :D Just kidding. :D

I feel your pain Arc_Trooper. Maybe it just takes a few episodes to suck readers in, so don't give up. Plus, who cares anyway, as long as you enjoy it :)

I only say this because I'm quickly running out of funds, and my friend whom I planned to shoot the photonovel with seems he will no longer have time for me.. :? :( It will be very difficult to continue as a result of all these reasons..

 I think that there are quite a few guys at the moment that are very new here yet they expect or seem to expect the same sort of responses that the older residents get during posts.

Guys c'mon now its getting very stagnant & daft - nobody else will create PN's like Chewie or Customs like Sith Fire ......

Be your own boss & enjoy YOUR hobby. We have said elsewhere that shouting about not getting interest in your ideas is not the way to gain the respect you seem to so desperately crave.

You will not get alot of praise for (just for e.g) another PN about Boba Fett with no set or diorama with your friends elbow in shot, making a PN or a custom does not automatically make you one of the "great ones".

DREWTON is a fantastic example of someone who just does what he does & his work speaks for itself - EXCELLENT.

Please guys, join the group instead of trying to steer it in your chosen direction. Learn from the tutorials instead of demanding that we all praise things that are less than deserving of it.

There are some truly wonderful posters on here who will praise you to encourange you as everyone has to start somewhere but if you do not have the funds or friends support then that really just points towards trying something else first doesn't it?

This isn't me attacking you personally but highlighting an emerging pattern that hasn't happened on here since I joined.

It is a pleasure to be a member here so please contribute not dictate - I myself have been less active whilst I arrange my wedding but intend to get on more once I am sorted.

There is no reason you cant wait for funds dude ... its not a race.

Funds are a problem, but so was the promise to the people who were interested.. I promised to get one up here soon, and so far, I feel like I am failing them. :( You see, my friend has all the sets for the photonovels, and I don't. I couldn't even shoot for the PN if I wanted too..

Sorry to seem rude, but I'm going to go out and say what I feel. You need to stop feeling sorry for yourself and get a grip. You can't expect to have a huge fanbase demanding for more PhotoNovels when you haven't even got your first issue out there yet. It's like making a band and expecting people to support you and ask for more songs before they've ever heard any of your songs.

One of the greatest PhotoNovels I've read had no sets, they used things such as cups for walls and vases for buildings. They had tablecloths for carpets and leaves they picked for outside scenery. It was a great PhotoNovel because of the writing and the work they put into it not because of some set.

I'm thinking about a PhotoNovel and I sure wont be making fancy sets, because I can't, even if I wanted to. I might have the odd building like a Harry Potter Castle in it but other than that I suspect my floors will all be blue carpet that I have in my bedroom. I can't afford to make PhotoNovel sets and great figures, but I think I'll enjoy actually telling some of my stories I create in my head and play out to myself and then share them with people I know. (Well, I don't know you guys, but you're all quite close as a comitee)

I'm hoping after Christmas I'll have a few more SW Figures to start a PN, I'll really enjoy doing it, you should too. Regardless of what others think of it.

I'm sure I'll read your PhotoNovel, and probably the one after. I don't really put any comment on PhotoNovels though, I do read alot of them. If you'd actually get and issue out maybe then you could start asking if people liked it and think you should continue.

PS:- Anyone who's interested, my PhotoNovel should be running functional in January 2009, and I think I'll have one or two issues out before then just to taste-test it out. They'll just give out the major details you'll need to know to be able to follow my PhotoNovel without confusion, such as character details shown in PhotoNovel issues and write-ups of character pages if you don't get it.

Hey Arc_trooper77

I hate to regurgitate what everyone else has said, but you have to know that you shouldn't give up on what you started to do.

I can sympathize with you because I started about over half a year ago and it all started with a custom and I decided, "Hey I should make a pn of this!" and planned the whole story and everything I had to do until I posted the first one just a couple days ago. It takes time to do something like that and patience.

You should also do it with passion, not because you want a bunch of fans like Chewie. Now maybe he doesn't feel this way, but there is a flip side to that coin: Chewie now has probably the biggest star wars fan base pn anywhere and that's all great, but I can't imagine how much work and effort goes into each and every shot. He has to please the fans now too, because if he doesn't put forth all that extra effort he will be persecuted for it. Now I believe he does that, not for the fans, but because he is passionate about what he does and loves it.

Just remember one thing you don't have to rush it. There is plenty of time to complete your project and it can only get better with time.
There's a story I remember of a painter, Tony O'Malley. He used to work at a bank and would get bored at work and decided to self-teach himself to paint and he did this for 25 years. Now once he was around 40, he decided to release his work because before he was to worried that no one would like his paintings. He became of the greatest modern painters who ever lived. So, you don't always have to rush things

Sorry if this seemed long and preachy, I just don't like to see people give up.

I kinda agree with Raziel. He may seem to be "unpleaseant" but he has points.Take your time on the plot for big shots of troopers.Think it out.Try what some people call "duplicating" I think.Sprite over some of your troopers and copy them.It takes alot of time and this is something completely shouldn't be coming from me.Your photo novel seems very interesting already. You might not get praise atfirst like myself for example, but we must take our time on shots and effects. We won't get praise for while, but try asking some off the pros, like Chewie,Raziel, and Drewton,I bet you the did not get the praise they do now back then.
Yet again,I state just my opinion.

Let me answer that with another question, who do you do your PN for? Is it to get recognition or is it for your own nejoyment?

For years I did the formar (In GI Joe) and while interesting it made me a bit miserable. It became a chore, an extra job. (If you ever visit my site you will notice that I never completed my GI Joe storyline, at this point I doubt I will).

I dumped the whole GI Joe story and went with something different meshing all the lines into a semi comedic PN. I am having a blast. Photoediting is never a chore now, I look forward to it.

Now on support I admit the mix of action and comedy is disconserting to some people and sometimes a lack of responce happens, but I keep going with it cause I am loving it, more so than anything I have done creatively before, reason it is all for me. Its really nice when people give feedback and say they enjoy it but its not nessessary for me now.

So in sumation, If its for you, keep going, if not take a break rethink what and why you are doing this and come back if you want with something for you. the responces will happen.

I'm going to continue my PN, this thread is a bit old. It's an enjoyable thing, it's just that so many people who support me are busy a lot, so getting it out in an orderly fashion will be a huge chore.  :)
